What's your stance on goons, other johnnyutah? I'm asking this question in the name of science.

Keep him. He's currently getting 1st unit p.p. time. It's only his second year in the league and he keeps getting better and better. Been the Kings most consistent d-man this season.

Every time someone posts a "Voynov" thread here (and we have about a hundred of them), I always respond the same way.

Voynov is a stud.

He was good last year and has been awesome this year. Kings have needed him to play a lot of minutes with the injured Mitchell and Greene and he's done everything expected and more. Plays great in the defensive zone and has an awesome shot.

I only expect him to get better.

His strong suit has always been scoring even though his defensive game has improved a lot this season. I can't think of many defensemen I'd want over him in a keeper. He's 22... thats insanely young for a #2 defensemen. I expect him to be the Zubov of his generation.

This is a pretty biased place to ask, you might want to go over to the Sharks, Ducks or Stars forum and get a countervailing bias before you cast judgement.

They wont tell you otherwise, hes a point machine and hes on a strong young team hes gonna be a plus player until the Kings have to pay for trading away all their firsts (6-7 years).

We're not worried about that. Lombardi usually drafts better in rounds 2 and up. Plus the Kings have only dealt their 1st in the upcoming draft and it was well worth it.

What's been amazing and pleasantly surprising is he hasn't had a sophomore slump like so many other players. We needed him to come through because of the injuries and he has.

Depends on how many Keepers your league allows and who else you're trying to keep.

He sees the ice better than anyone in the team except Kopi, IMHO. He is getting better and better and a joy to watch.

Why are you even thinking of dropping or trading him? Me thinks it would have to take a significant return for it to be worth your while.

Which obviously means the jinx is going to hit him in his third year after he signs a nice, healthy contract extension like with what happened to Matt Duchene of the Avalanche.

The season will then be occupied by Kings fans cooking up various trade scenarios to ditch the under-performing fluke to another team and thanking their luck that they have another young defense prospect who is way better anyway and makes him expendable.

Then depending on how it goes we'll either be thankful we never traded him and praise his bounce back season. Or we'll be lamenting over the fact that if he just performed the team never would've traded him, while starting threads asking if people are going to boo him on his return to Staples.

Maybe it's the cynic in me but if you're asking about next season exclusively I'd probably expect him to drop a bit in production. Remember, this season is a contract year for him and next season the "sophomore slump" could also be a factor.

Still, if you're looking at a longer term I'd say you'd probably want to keep him around.
