Awesome. There's something I really like about minor league hockey.

Tickets are always available. Save yourself the ticketmaster fees and just walk up to the box office on game day. Attendance has been down since the end of the lockout (huge bummer) so there are tons of open seats. I'd recommend getting the cheapest tickets, Seats on Goal, and just sitting wherever you want. There's also a cool Redhook beer garden behind one of the goals. You can go down there and watch the whole game on the glass if you want.

Stockton Arena is awesome. Went there to see the bulls a few weeks ago and had a great time. The fans in Stockton were great too. Talked to a lot of Thinder fans that wanted to come out to SF to see a game. I told them not to expect much compared to the shiny new barn

Hey man. Not getting dead last in your inaugural season is pretty good if you ask me!

The WorSharks have apparently signed left wing Lane Scheidl from the Regina Pats (WHL) to an AHL contract for the 2013-2014 season.

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...php?pid=118582

In the Tarasov thread I applauded SJ for not giving borderline players NHL deals to "try them out" in the pro game instead of signing them to AHL deals. It seems AHL deals are definitely the direction the organization is going in now.

Regarding Scheidl, I like to see the progression in points each successive season.

On top of what I mentioned to you on twitter, I have to wonder if this signing is to somewhat help (try to anyway) offset the loss of Kennedy, who I'm guessing may not be back in Worcester anytime soon, and Reid.

I really don't think the org wants to chance losing him to waivers (I could be way off here though).

While he certainly should be able to help the WorSharks this season (presuming he signs an ATO, and I can't think of a reason why he wouldn't) I'm not really certain they were thinking of him as a potential Kennedy/Reid replacement.

I was told straight out that SJ isn't even thinking of putting Kennedy on waivers, so that pretty much answers that portion of the question.

Oh, ya, I meant for the rest of this year as it's very likely Reid won't be back this season either. I wasn't even thinking about next year...yet.

To create a roster spot for Havlat, they put Kennedy on IR rather than waivers.

Good move. As much as I felt hockey ops didn't put their all into Worcester last season, this season from the start I felt they put together a top-5 AHL team (on paper). I know it hasn't worked out, but I think the scouts and Thomas/Wilson did their job. This is another move that shows they are at least trying to win this year - instead of just slotting the Reid/Kennedy replacement with some CHL scrub.

One of the top guys on a bad team his whole junior career. As a WHL fan, I'm okay with this signing.

I'm guessing you won't find too many against it...which is either really good or REALLY bad.

Doesn't seem like a good defensive player being -8 while being over PPG.

+/- is a really useless stat, especially without context...but really, the WorSharks don't need anymore defensive players, they're very set there.

Well he popped 41 goals on a bad team so maybe hes got a little offensive skill.

Lane Scheidl is an "overage" junior player. He turned 21 in Jan.

Each CHL team is allowed to have 3 20-year-olds on its roster. It's common for an overage forward to be among a team's scoring leaders. That's to be expected of a more experienced, more physically mature player.

He scored 27 goals in 70 games last season, and 13 in 68 the year before that. He was not drafted

I'm certainly not suggesting he doesn't have a future as a pro, but his 41 goals this season should be considered in context.

Yeah I don't think anyone has stars in their eyes about him but our minor league team isn't an offensive juggernaut so we will take what we can get.

You mean he's not going to be the next Wayne Gretzky?
