Perry has been clearly superior to Getzlaf for the last three seasons. He's the heart and soul of that team.

As for Jonas Hiller - if Oilers brass isn't 100% re: Dubnyk in the off-season it may be worth an attempt at acquiring this guy. Might cost us a fair big (Dubnyk+Gagner for Hiller+) - but he may be the only one available (Schneider?) come the off-season.

Turn the cap hit into 5.5-6.0M and let him play with RNH. He brings a similar game to Marian Hossa, with great 2-way play and brilliant shooting and passing ability.

Surely you can't be serious.

Your ideas are: trade Dubnyk & Gagner for Hiller, bring in Semin for 7 years (because he's basically hossa) and trade Eberle for Wheeler.

I think you're ignoring the meaning of "+". Dubnyk+Gagner for Hiller is an absolute dud of a trade - but if that + could be something in the range of an Etem or Palmieri it's not too bad - same with getting Trouba with Wheeler for Eberle.

As for Semin vs Hossa - clearly Hossa is the better player but in terms of availability of elite wingers - Semin's the next closest one.

Style of play is there - Semin is an excellent shooter and playmaker - like Hossa. He's near-impossible to get the puck away from along the boards - like Hossa. And he's the Canes' best defensive forward - not at the level of a Hossa/Toews but at a level that would make him instantly our most reliable top-6 forward (if Horcoff slots down to line 3).

No more trading for prospects!! If we're trading Eberle to Winnepeg it's for Wheeler and Enstrom or Buff.

They would add Trouba to Wheeler to get a much smaller and less productive forward?

After looking up recent line combos, I was surprised to see not only Dan Boyle, but Vlasic, D. Murray and even Stuart get shifts in the top 6 with Thornton.
There must be a deal to be made with San Jose.

Goalies = 3.5 plus backup (say 1.5) = 5

Cap for 2013/2014 = 64.3 million.

You want to try adding that up again? It's 8 million over the cap.

"not even close to as difficult as you make it seem" is it?
Sam will want 5 Paajarvi closer to 3

Why does SJ do this, they aren't in blow up mode. Even then that's pretty brutal as all guys should net a roster player, prospect and a 1st. Well not Clowe.

Semin-Hossa comparisons? Canes best defensive forward. Surely you can't be serious?

Fair enough, I figured it wasn't really ideal. I would like to see the Oilers and the Sharks come together, there's clearly a fit, imo.

I wonder if you could scale it back

To SJ: Petry, 2013 1st, Marincin, Hartikainen

To EDM: Burns and Clowe

That makes this team better, and I think(if the Oilers are still in the mix) this might be the way to go.

He is a 200 pound 6 foot 8 dman he is 22 years old
In his 2012-13 season with U. of Nebraska-Omaha 39GP 9G 16A 20 pts 53 PIM

Any interest ?
For sure, I'm not going to bank on him being much. But a free prospect is a free prospect.

doubtful, doesn't seem anyone is willing to take a chance on the guy.

It's rather unfortunate, but that's what happens when the league doesn't outlaw these things. Or at least modify the NMC so that teams have options. Perry and anyone else who signs these deals who handcuffed their GM's are in the same boat as Nash. Got his money and if he wants to go to another team all he has to do is pout.

If Semin is the canes best defensive forward they have problems.

It still does little for SJ who by all accounts will be looking at tweaking to make the playoffs. I have no doubt that guys will be available but they are going to want guys that are equally talented.

J. Staal was a 2010 Selke finalist if that's any indication of how inaccurate his statement sounds. Alex Semin is not nor will he ever be known for his two-way play.

Saying semin is the best defensive forward on his team may be a reach but he is no slouch in that dept. his defensive game has never been an issue it was more his will to play. he has been great this year for the canes and would be amazing on a line with PRV. You could play the worst defensive C on the team with them and not have a liability. do you trust his work ethic for the next 7 years? thats the question you need to answer before making any kind of deal for him.

Any trade proposal involving Eberle is stupid.

This.

Trade Gagner before Eberle. Once the playoffs are here, your going to want Mr Clutch.

Fernando who?

He has been struggling, Eberle, but he's still basically on pace for a 20g 60pts season over the full 82, that's hardly "terrible"
