Stephen Whyno @SWhyno 31m
Holtby says #Caps haven't been "intense" enough this year. "I hope [Laich] can be a big leader on this team because we need it."

Isn't the team Captain the leader.

Perhaps, but apparently the Caps are missing a "big leader".

At 6'3" 230lbs, Ovechkin's pretty big...

That quote is very telling about how Ovie leads this team. I just think it reflects more on that he just goes out and tries to do it on the ice whereas Laich rah rah's it in the locker room. And of course on the side of int. 66 after a playoff game

One would have to be a pretty blind homer to see Holtby's quote as anything other than a dig on Ovi, and to some extent Oates. Holtby says "we need leadership", I see that as saying "Ovi isn't giving us enough leadership" which is something many many people have been saying for a while now.

If Ovi were truly a leader at all, there would be no questioning of his leadership like this.

I think it speaks more to the fact that Ovie isn't a rah rah guy in the locker room that Laich obviously is.

Holtby is Canadian. He wants a leader that speaks in cliche's.

I think its obvious Ovi is not the vocal leader type. And that is fine, but I hope no one expected him to be that type of leader when they pinned the C on him.

If a rah rah guy in the room actually helps, Laich is certainly the man for the job.

If everyone is still looking to Ovi to be that guy, then maybe the C is best stuck on Laich or Brouwer.

I tend to think a guy in the room always saying something eventually gets ignored, or laughed at. Like coaches. He has to be selective in deciding when to speak up.

But Ovechkin isn't the type of player to play with intensity, so it would be Young Turk of you to expect him to lead by example on that front.

Whyno probably made that quote up. He and Laich are noted buttbuddies.

Will be a high scoring game, unfortunately I don't think the Caps will be the ones lighting the lamp.

Well without Green in the lineup, our defense is brutal... wow.

You mean without Green, Kundratek, Poti, and Erskine (and Hamrlik).

A lot of flat tires lately at Ketler I guess.

I had a loose connection to my battery the other day; Laich was nowhere to be found

Laich is nothing but a PR wet dream. Good for a great interview and to set up group fishing trips. But not the leader this team needs.
