What does Nonis/Carlyle's pages have to do with it? Do you have it on good authority that Nonis wants Gardiner on the top pairing? lol

I think right now Franson is probably the only one I can realistically see filling it internally. As for external solutions, I think the names like Robidas that have been thrown around this thread are potential candidates but I'm not a connected person and won't pretend that what I "think might happen" matters.

No, just pure speculation.... And I posted that with the assumption that Holzer going down meant Gardiner coming up. I never suggested that Nonis wanted Gardiner on the top pairing, I suggested that Nonis and RC should be on the same page as far as personnel go, cause the way I see it, Dion doesn't have a steady defence partner - something that would really help this squad.

Robidas would be nice, Franson has definitely been playing he deserves the shot too

More than five, but this is who I'd like the team to keep going forward.
Amensty Komi
Trade Liles
Trade Grabo
Trade Mac
Draft Monahan in this draft
Sign Elias to a 2 year/9-10m deal
Sign Nathan Horton to a 5 year/$20m deal
Sign Raffi Torres to 2 year/$4.5m deal
Sign Scuderi to 4 year/14m deal

Lupul - Elias - Kessel
Van Riemsdyk - Kadri - Horton
Torres - Bozak - Frattin
Komarov - McClement - Kulemin

Phaneuf - Scuderi
Gardiner - Franson
Rielly - Fraser

Reimer
Scrivens

I'm pretty sure that all fits under the cap.

Clarkson i'd love to have.. horton i think is damaged goods now. He's still a solid player but i wouldn't put him in the lineup over JVR, Lupul, Frattin, Kulemin.

horton can be a great player when healthy but at this point not a player you can count on to carry a team. Leafs need players they can count on

Nonis on trade deadline: "We're going to be in the mix with a bunch of teams." Buyer or seller? "Possibility of both."

Nonis: "We could be moving some picks to bring some players in."

I would take Clarkson over them right now. Having him and Frattin on the same team would be like having two pit bulls on the bench. They both lower their head and head straight to the net. Most teams on our division would have trouble dealing with them both.

Unless he's bringing in young prospect players, why would he be moving picks? Seems to go take a 180 from his "slow and steady" motivation to this point.

That plus Gardiner coming up and Holzer going down-someone suggested pressure internally. Also seems interesting that things suddenly start moving with Perry being re-signed, wonder if Toronto (and everyone else) was waiting for that to resolve itself.

Only way I support trading a 1st is if a young, high potential prospect/player comes back.

think that a combination of kulemin, macarthur, grabo, gunnarsson, kostka should be traded for a a solid top 3 Dman to partner up with Phaneuf.

For free agency, I can see Nonis having interest in Wiess, Clarkson, Horton, Scuderi, Murray

Would love to have Clarkson, and Weiss, because I think Weiss can have chemistry with kessel and CLarkson who is a big physical presence that can play anywhere in the top 9.

Terrible interview on TSN 1050 by Dave Naylor with Nonis, got nothing interesting out of him.

100% this has been brought up before but I do not feel like shifting through pages of posts...

Grabovski
????

Lecavalier

For the leafs they get someone who can play #1C and could work with Kessel. For Tampa they get a cheaper second line C and something else which I am not 100% of yet. All of this being assumed that Vinny would waive.

I'd do it .. Worst case is that he could be bought out within a couple seasons if he doesn't pan out or declines rapidly, a cost that Tampa's ownership might not want to incur or if they did they could buy out Grabo for less

I don't Vinny waives, I get the impression he's not a high pressure type of guy,and the circus that would be Toronto if they got him, I don't know if he'd flourish under that. I think he's there until he finished the contract or chooses to get another cup with another team.

And the NTC is the huge issue there-I think they would take a fair hit just to get rid of that contract if they could.

I realise you said ASSUMING Vinny Waives-the trade might be interesting, but grabs at 5.5 for 4 years vs Vinny at 9 years-I think Toronto would just as soon amnesty Grabs.

Really hoping for a solid 3-4 dman to come in and help stabilize things on the backend. Will be an interesting next couple of weeks for sure!

I would love David clarkson. Is there any chance we could nab him in this trade deadline?? Or would we have to wait till the summer when he becomes a free agent??

I hope Nonis mostly sells, usually deadline deals are overpayments and I would rather have someone overpay us, than us overpaying another team.

With all due respect to Regehr, he didnt have the same cache and standing in Calgary as Vinny does in Tampa

I'm sure living in Tampa is a bit nicer than Calgary...

Vinny is old and has a albatross contract till 2020 that he wont play out... He also hasn't been elite since 08'...
