Ducks pursuing a 2nd line center

On 'That's Hockey' on TSN, Pierre LeBrun reiterated that the Ducks have no desire to deal Bobby Ryan (They figure that with expiring contracts like Selanne and Koivu this summer, they should be okay with the Cap, even with RPG) but that they are interested in acquiring a 2nd line center between now and April 3rd.

I would have to guess Mike Ribeiro is a guy they're very interested in.

Must be Grabovski. Toronto and Anaheim always make trades.

I'd assume a rental of some sort, unless someone is secretly available on a cheap ELC/bridge contract.

What would we even get in return?

Most trades with Anaheim, if they don't involve Ryan are going to be lateral or risky trades

Not a good trading partner right now imo

I think Roy was mentioned on TSN.

Yep, we'd love to take his cap hit after the 2 big signings. I'm sure you'd be more than willing to relieve Ryan's cap hit for us, though...

In your dreams.

Wasn't there some rumor about Andy McDonald making the rounds a few weeks ago? He makes sense seeing how he was part of their Cup run in 2007 and played a pivotal role there. It also helps that he's familiar with the club and most of his linemates from that roster are still there.

Roy makes a lot of sense. Grabovski and Briere have long term cap commitments that we can't afford to take on.

Briere's salary for next year is 3 million and 2 million after that. He is the perfect player for a budget team like Anaheim to acquire.

I said cap hit, not salary. We are very much a cap team after signing the twins.

If the Stars decide they're legit sellers and they're going to get everything they can for their expiring UFA's I have to imagine they wouldn't eliminate Anaheim from the mix regarding Roy just because they're division rivals.

I wonder what pieces Anaheim considers in play in their search for a 2nd line center.

Yes, he is. He has NTC and probably wouldn't waive it, though. Also the price might be too steep (I have seen some Briere + 2014 1st for Ryan around here)..

What would you think his value might be?

Realignment means that we won't be divisional rivals next season. Roy would be a quick fix, with the long term solution coming from one of the young guys on an ELC for the next few seasons(Bonino, Holland, Rakell, Karlsson, Wagner, Sarault). Maybe they can fit him in with a move of Hiller; Roy isn't really due big money, right now.

I would take Anaheim 1st and say we are good. You want to throw in a middling prospect you can though

Gotta believe if Toronto continues to lose, Bozak may become available. But with our saviour on the Leafs now, hopefully things turn around.

He has a cap hit of 6.5 million for two more seasons after this one. We cannot take that on that obligation after signing Getzlaf and Perry. We are no longer a salary team.

Edit: We are also not going to piss away five million on a buyout this summer.

That is stupid.

A 1st would be fine (in the 25-30 range, I'd guess).
