In that case, 2 years for less than $2MM total is a brilliant, brilliant deal.

Dirt cheap money we're talking here. Good news is we have his rights until atleast 2012 as an RFA. Smart move by sather to save some money now while he can.

the only current D that isn't signed next year is Rachunek

Malik, Roz, Kaspar, Tyutin, and Ward are all signed for another year after this coming one is over

No need to sign a 23 year old to a long term deal. Two years and then we'll see if he has what it takes to lock him up long term so we don't lose him.

Tyutin, who was a restricted free agent, will earn $950,000 in the upcoming season and $1.025 million in 2007-08.

tyutin is still atleast 4 years away from being a UFA...by the time he turns 27 the ufa age will be 27. he won't have enough seasons before then to get it any earlier.

This news makes Tyutin's #1 advocate very, very happy... Dirt cheap to boot. I'll gladly bring up you doubters in a couple years..

Prediction for next year:

10 goals, 30 assists + improved defense = BARGAIN

i mean id like to see some young guys get a shot at cracking the lineup at camp (not to say that toots isnt young) but i mean Pock, Staal i think have the skills to play in the NHL... but with Toots and Rosy signed we basically have our 6 starting DMEN for next year

Roszival-Malik
Toots-Kasper
Ward-Rachunek

...not in that order

yeah pretty much. Brooks' last article said that Pock and Richter would probably be competing for the 7th D spot, but Staal could still make it if he wowed people

Staal basically has to play so well that it forces management to do something. I think that's a smart way to handle a kid who can't go to the AHL. Plan for him to go back to the CHL, and if he wows you, make other plans.

I mean tehre really isn't much to doubt. Honestly even if he stalls in his development, he is still worth every penny that we gave him. Its really a no-lose deal.

You must have missed it--it was announced several weeks ago that Rachunek signed a one year deal for $1.8 million.

Fantastic. That's a good signing, great to lock him up.

This team is really looking pretty good this year, I'm really excited about where this team can go
