The Penguins endured five years (four seasons plus the lockout) without a playoff appearance then were a one and done the next year to get the two #1 overall, two #2 overall, and #5 overall from 2002-2006. So, six years between winning rounds in the playoffs .... a nice followup to their one playoff appearance between 1982 and 1990.

One playoff appearance between 97-98 and 07-08 .... three top five picks in that span.

Everyone wants to see their team get the early picks but the reality is the teams that eventually build a Cup roster through those early picks tend to suck for quite a few years to do it.

Guess so.

Right now though, we don't have the depth for sure.

I guess the next question that should be asked is if we were in a position to draft someone like Seth Jones, would we parlay his selection to someone that needs a talented cheap defenseman and has scoring forwards they could part with (ie Colorado or NYI)? I just get scared on drafting a defenseman that high thinking about Eric Johnson.
