The debate started from whether or not we feel sympathy for someone who hurts themselves as a result of doing drugs. Not how we judge their character by their habits.

I agree. SO what? He can do whatever he wants. We can agree there. I certainly don't judge. But he won't get sympathy from me when he kills himself in the process.
In general, I feel sympathy for a person who suffers a potentially debilitating medical complications if they are of good character. Looking at Lil Wayne's past, there's nothing I can point to and say he's of poor character.

If he suffers a stroke, can't talk and will be in a wheelchair the rest of his life, is it his fault? Sure, but it doesn't mean I don't have sympathy for him.

Maybe you should point me to where Lil Wayne has directly told a minor that codeine is awesome and they should try it. Otherwise, you sound like those mothers from the 90s who were all up in arms about Marilyn Manson after Columbine.

But people idolize him right?

A commercial and Lil Wayne both talk about how cool something is, but because the commercial tell you specifically to buy it that's one thing? Do you not think kids who listen to Lil Wayne don't hear the lyrics or see those pictures and think they need to try it? Humans are impressionable by nature and that's why commercials exists. In fact, that's why marketing companies use rappers in their commercials. Do they do it because these guys are so articulate and good at acting? Or because they have a fan base who will listen to them?

His music is terribad. He's still never harmed a soul other than himself.

I didn't say harming...just putting the words out there can lead to people (well in this case "Gangsta" kids.) But humans as we know idolize and birg off of people or things... I'm looking at it from a psychological POV now though.

I agree, and again, now we're almost going to a completely different topic. Is he a good guy? He could be. But if someone posts a silly meme poking fun of him hurting himself because of his choice to take drugs, people can laugh at it and I won't feel bad.

Almost everything.

Apparently on The Jeselnik Offensive, Anthony Jeselnik was making fun of a recent shark attack victim. That's crossing the line, IMO.

I'm very big into stand-up comedy. I went to this show in the city and as a Jew, I don't care if anyone makes fun of Jews. If I laugh at all the jokes they make about other races, religions, and whatnot, I shouldn't get upset. I actually laugh at the jokes directed at Jews, but this one guy started making jokes about the Holocaust. I felt like killing him.

Humor is here to help cope with what can be very serious stuff. Holocaust jokes, **** jokes, drug jokes, you name it. Fine by me.

If you listen to a Wayne song and are inspired to start doing stupid ****, that's a choice you make.
It's still promoting something though. That's my point. Whether you choose to do that thing he's singing about is up to you.

Case in point: My friend's little brother was drinking something a few years back that he called "sizzurp" It was cough syrup mixed with vodka and sprite. I said, "Damn dude the **** you doing that for?" and he said, "You never heard Lil Wayne's song? This **** is dope."

Now I know as far as anyone knows I could be making that up, but I'm telling you, I'm not. My friend's little brother is stupid for doing that. He's stupid for listening to a rapper and trying to do what the rapper does. Since then, he still does. He buys hats, pants, all kinds of stuff that rappers wear, it's insane. I've never been that way, in fact, I don't even buy things because of commercials, but a lot of people do and that's why we have advertising campaigns with Britney Spears drinking Coca Cola or Michael Jordan wearing Fruit of the Looms. It's all the same thing.
