I would go along with this. Never really thought Nashville would be out of it far enough to be a trading partner with the Kings, but I would do it for a 2nd or 3rd rounder maybe.

They aren't quite yet, but a loss tonight could put them closer.

I think it was originally 8 weeks, which would have been late March IIRC.

I assume good news, from what I have heard from you TG. Could be back on the ice before the end of the month?

Based on his past trade value, a 2nd and a 5th/tier 2 prospect. I don't see any reason that value has decreased.

Here is a story from just a few days after the injury occurred that says 8 weeks. This of course was before he was said to be "ahead of schedule".

http://www.sbnation.com/2013/1/26/39...injury-surgery

http://lakingsinsider.com/2013/01/24...eene-update-2/

Though i'm not sure how far ahead of schedule he was or is, because sometime in the next few days will be 8 weeks and I don't think he is even skating yet.

Based on the fact that he's currently injured and that he has been a healthy scratch this season, I think a 2nd is too much. He's supposed to return soon.

Strictly a placeholder for Greene's penalty killing and veteran leadership until he returns if it happens. If Greene gets back early, then Battleship Gill won't be needed.

if gill is acquired do they reunite him with scuderi? guess they would be the bottom pairing while amart moves up to the second with vv.

Injury won't have anything to do with trade value, unless it's a major injury, like a knee injury. Health scratch though? Hmmm, didn't know that.

But I agree, if Greene is back, it's all a mute point. If we get Greene, no need for Gill.

Hopefully not since they won't be able to move the puck at all

I have no interest in Gill or Regehr, or much of what is available out there vet wise.

I know the grind sucks but I'm not sure they provide any more than DD44 at this point.

This is all moot if Mitchell is closer to returning. Dean's not going to throw draft picks away on veteran shutdown D when we'll have two coming off the IR sooner rather than later.

The big question is what happens next year with the emergence of Jake Muzzin. Does Martinez become expendable?

If just ONE of Greene or Mitchell return before the playoffs we're relatively set:

Muzzin-Doughty
Scuderi-Voynov
Martinez-Greene

OR

Muzzin-Doughty
Mitchell-Voynov
Scuderi-Martinez

Edit: Or if both are back, package Martinez and Bernier for Iginla and a conditional 2nd (condition being we get the 2nd if Iginla does not resign). Trade Drewiske and Richardson for picks and or a deal for a veteran backup.

Iginla-Kopitar-Williams
Penner-Carter-Toffoli
Brown-Richards-Lewis
Clifford-Stoll-King
Nolan, Fraser

Scuderi-Doughty
Mitchell-Voynov
Muzzin-Greene
Ellerby

Quick
Veteran Backup

That squad wins a Cup 9 times out of 10.

Next year we just let Scuderi go since we need to shed salary anyway

Is that really the right move, though? Scuderi has had a rough go this year, but I don't know if two green puck movers fully replace a veteran shutdown defender.

we need to shed salary, so better off shedding it from a position of strength where we have capable replacements

For the most part it looks like a lot of you are operating under the idea that Mitchell and/or Greene will be back. While that's not bad, I'd point out that if the trade deadline comes and goes without making a move the current roster and kids in the AHL are the only reinforcements available if they suffer a setback or more injuries come up.

That's why I'd feel more comfortable if the team could acquire at least one additional player with some experience to be able to turn to before an inexperienced rookie. Throwing a young kid into an intense high pressure situation like the Stanley Cup Playoffs is asking a lot, I think.

I'll grant that it could be the ultimate sink or swim test to see what the prospect is made of, but you don't want to wreck them either. Especially if you can get a veteran safety blanket as insurance, you know?

Has anyone else noticed that whoever is paired with Scuderi, they seem to become a better player? In Pittsburg it was Orpik, in LA it's been Doughty and Voynov. That says a lot.

It depends on who is available and what the cost is. It doesn't make any sense to overpay if it leaves us in a slightly better position (Leopold for example) for the playoffs but weaker overall. If we don't get MG or WM back for the playoffs then we might have to rely on our kids plus DavisD more than we want to but I would rather do that then move a key young player for a slightly better rental.

I know that isn't what you are advocating at all, just pointing out that the only way I would make a move would be for a player who could either replace WM for next season as well as whatever we get out of them this year (if WM ends up falling off again) or if for a rental at a very cheap price.

Say if Leopold could be had for a player who is redundant for us (Richardson and a 7th) at a very low offer then I could see it. If not we might have to run what we brung to ovoid losing a big part of our future.

We have too many D as it sits and when MG/WM do come back something will have to give but that can wait.

I agree. We should resign Scuderi. He's to useful for the development of the kids and is the only pure defensive d-man not on IR. That and we have no idea the condition of Mitchell.

From what I remember, they are working on an extension with Scuderi.

Doughty - Scuderi has been a brutal pairing this season.

Ok just a thought. After the trade deadline, I think in years past, there is no limit on roster size. Could the team be waiting until then to bring Greene and Mitchell back? No worries about sending someone down, no waiver worries and plenty of cap room to keep everyone.

The mid-80's Oilers couldn't win 9 out of 10. I don't think any team in history has won 9 out of 10.

I use to think that I wanted to re-sign Scuderi, but now, I'm not too sure. And it really doesn't have much to do with his struggle this season, but rather his lack of physical play. We have a lot of big body on defense, but too many of them play a soft game. FWIW, if we do re-sign Scuds, I'm fine with it, but I would prefer someone who's going to bring more physical presence to kings defense.
