Mike Boivin a senior with Minnesota that has been a great player in my eyes 6'1"-190 lbs.his game is well rounded.A.Laganiere C/RW-6'4" -215 lbs could be the Habs Joel Otto, good two-way player with offence,as a bonus he's from Montreal. Eric Hartzell the goalie that everyone raves about,(and why not)then LW Ryan Walters no relation to our ex-veteran but a very consistent scorer, leads the NCAA in Pts.52 and fifth in goals with 22.Some real eye openers get the wallet out and sign on the free agents the Habs need to make the SC run. Then trade the players that get us under the Cap for draft picks, like the NYR's and Flyers are doing right now. There is also Drew LeBlanc C"-198 lbs.good two-way player with an eye for the net, giving the Habs a player for each position. My favorites are Dekeyser,Sustr,or Boivin on def. and Laganiere C/RW with LW Walters close 2nd.
Most players signed as college free agents do not have much of an impact. There are a few exceptions but every year, this list gets out and people say we should sign this guy or that guy but the reality is that it's an overrated list year-in, year-out. The only guy this year that I would go after is Dekeyser. Sustr and Laganiere are long-shot projects at best.

That's what the article said about Dekeyser, but not about Sustr or Laganiere.Sustr will sign with the NYR's IMO and play this season.Laganiere has to fit into a system so he may not play in the NHL for a season IMO.Boivin could step into the Habs lineup as well as DeKeyser could IMO.

He'll get some time in Hamilton. He'll need to adjust to a pro schedule.

I'm sure Danny has one thing on his mind once signed and that will be playing in Montreal.College players don't have the long schedules the CHL and NHL have,so they will hit a wall sooner or later trying to compete at that level in a prolonged season.Kristo is a great player and a hard worker,it remains to be seen how easy the adjustment will be for him.

In response to Mathias Brunet's article today that says Kristo could Schultz on us...

The loophole only applies to players drafted out of juniors opting out of school in the fourth summer after their draft year (after their third year in college).

Kristo is completing his fourth year, and this coming summer is the fifth since his draft. The window to use the loophole has closed. He is Habs property in the NHL and only eligible to an ELC contract. At best, he could be an RFA, play in the KHL for a while and become a defected RFA years down the line. But why would he do that?

Mac Bennett, however, is another story. The fourth summer following his draft is this summer, if he doesn't sign with us AND opts out of school, he's UFA.

College Hockey News has Kristo as the frontrunner for the Hobey Baker award.

Quote:
1. Danny Kristo, Senior, Forward, North Dakota

Kristo's final season in Grand Forks has confirmed what most always thought. The senior right winger has always had the potential to be a truly dominant college hockey player, and the fact that he stuck around college to fully realize that potential, is a rarity. Kristo's 24 goals and 26 assists are third and 12th nationally. His 50 points are tied for third, as is his 1.35 points per game clip. And his propensity for big goals down the stretch has enabled him to emerge as something of a frontrunner. Kristo will have plenty of time to further separate himself to the field with strong performances this weekend and the NCAA tournament. An issue that could derail his candidacy, like it did to one-time teammate Matt Frattin two years ago, was Kristo's guilty plea for serving alcohol to minors at a team party. Whether that should be an issue or not, is another story.

Only 13 goals for him.

Kristo has 24 goals. If you look at the list of highest goal scorers in the country and then cross-reference with the strength of schedule(SOS) of that player's team, Kristo's totals look even better.

1. Greg Carey / 38gp/ 28 goals / SOS= 45th/59 teams
2. Steven Whitney / 36gp/ 25 goals / SOS= 26th/59
3. Danny Kristo / 37gp/ 24 goals /SOS= 5th/59
4.Michael Mersch / 38gp/ 23 goals /SOS= 19th/59
5.Ryan Walters / 39gp/ 22 goals /SOS= 27th/59

Same thing when you compare the overall points leaders and their team's SOS.

NCAA Men's Division 1 overall statistics

KRACH Ratings(SOS is second column from the far right)

Really happy for Kristo but doesn't the Honeymoon Baker award come with a Superman/Kennedy family curse?

He probably won't win it anyway. It's usually given to some kid from a horrible conference who racks up a lot of points. He will probably get screwed out of it like Frattin did.

Parise, Toews, Oshie, Frattin, Stafford, Zajac all played for UND and never won. If you look at the list of past winners, it's obvious what a joke the award is most of the time.

What I read was that he said he'll sign a pro contract, whether it is with the Habs or another team. Because I believe if we don't sign him before June 15th, we lose his rights. Has nothing to do with the loophole

Interesting. I'm not one to discredit Kristo's accomplishments but he does have Knight as his centre as well as a handful of good defencemen and a solid G duo.

Let's stop thinking about individual players and think about the system.

It might be good if all those players stick together and compete for a Calder cup together.

We cannot NOT sign this guy. As I keep repeating for years...Kristo IS a keeper, a future top 6 and a PP specialist. He's a real sniper....we can never have too many of those. Hearing he's signed will be one of the biggest news of the year. People underestimate his value by quite a lot.

Agreed. Hopefully when he comes in, he lights it up with the remaining Dogs games, comes to the team as a black ace and maybe gets a shot if injuries happen.

'Cause you think the dogs will be ready for a cup run on next season? Don't forget that there will still be a lot of rookies on this team.
