5-2 Stars.

I also guarantee some first class, comedic gold from our "defence" tonight.

How does losing ruin player haha? I've played on some bad teams before and when our team finally matured we started winning. The losses now don't matter, when this team is ready to take the next step they will. That's not to say a good coach wouldn't help guide them in the right direction.

I'll be missing tonight's game... first all season. So I bet we will win 8-1 with Duchene and Landy both getting hat tricks.

You're making an assumption he will be fired if we do keep losing, that may not be the case. We signed him for two more years. My gut tells me he's going to get the rest of this year regardless of how it plays out, and that even if we lose every game for the rest of the year - he may not be fired this off-season.

Its possible, so that's something to consider.

Yeah but what is the downside? That we pick higher? That our guys pick up 12 more career losses during this shortened nightmare season?

The odds of him getting fired certainly increase.
Would I openly root against our team in the Pepsi Center? No.
Would I want our guys to throw this game on purpose? Hell no.
Do I root for them to lose thousands of kilometres away from Denver? Hell yeah. There is just no upside in winning right now unless we go on some crazy 10 game winning streak.

And Sacco will not let that happen.

That's the worst thing in american sports. Teams are rewarded for being the worst they can be. They can just give up on a season with no consequences.

Yeah Joe Sakic & Adam Foote never recovered.

Seriously, just stop with this ********. It might be that way in other sports but I just gave you TWO examples of why your theory is flawed. I could list MANY others (Yzerman as well).

Yeah and by the way, I played Midget AAA and I'd actually PREFER IT if they lost the rest of the way so we can be sure to get rid of this awful coach AND get a great pick. I actually DO cheer for the Avs DURING THE GAMES and want them to win but when they don't, I'm still happy and looking forward to the end of the season.

The organisation and coaching staff sets the tone of a franchise.
And our current culture is a culture of losing.
A meaningless 3 game winning streak will not change that fact.
And how do we change the current setup? By losing.
Sacco will survive finishing 19th. The chance that he survives a top3 pick are significantly lower.

We have drafted for leadership and character the last few years.
And we still have a "losing" mentality going on. Winning meaningless games does nothing but hurt this organisation.
Yes we have to start winning sooner or later. But we won't under Sacco. So what is the point of finishing 21st instead of 29th?
Do you really believe that changes the mentality of our players?
Do you really believe that breeds a winning mentality? Under freaking Sacco?

Most succesful teams go through a losing period.

And yes I will openly root for them to lose right now.
Why? Because it is the only thing that benefits us longterm...
And it is not like you or me have any impact whatsoever on the outcome of any game.
Very much THIS. Great post. How anyone can see the situation ANY other way is absolutely BEYOND me.

People don't seem to realize that if we'd 'finish higher instead of much lower' we could very well be looking at a roster with Magnus-Paarjavii Svensson and Anton Lander instead of Duchene and O'Reilly AND Mika Zibanejad instead of Landeskog. How would that look?

McGinn-Stastny-PAP
MPS-Zibanejad-Hejduk
Mitchell-Lander-Jones
McLeod-Kobasew-Palushaj

The roster I just posted above is the way you remain PERPETUALLY OUT OF THE PLAYOFFS (or on the bubble with an above average coach) but never really going anywhere.

Why is it so difficult for people to GRASP this concept?

You playing Midget AAA hockey in the 1980s has absolutely nothing to do with what you said. I also played AAA hockey for Honeybaked, but that doesn't add anything to the conversation.

You bring up some good examples of players that weren't ruined by a losing culture, but those guys are also hall of famers. While we have some good players on this team, I don't know if any of them are on the levels of Sakic or Foote or Yzerman.

For every Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Detroit (in the 80s), there's an Edmonton, NYI, and Florida to go along with it. Losing doesn't automatically mean we are going to be better in the future. At some point, our players need to learn to how to win hockey games and the sooner that starts the better off we will be IMO.

Also Bender, why do you always seem to CAPITALIZE certain words in order to make other posters feel INFERIOR to you? Like I get it, you think you're a hockey genius, but that doesn't mean you actually know more about the game than other posters.

Not if you didn't also play Midget AAA beforehand.

To be honest I can see him extended. This organization is a joke now so it only makes sense

Hey now, I played in a local Roller Hockey league this year, and posted 1g 1a in 4gp, with no penalties...though I did run into several goalies because I'm a terrible skater...so I think that I can have some relevence in this discussion
