I hope so, I really don't see us getting an upgrade for a year without paying much more.

I find it strange that Boullion was given preference over other we need to extend though, I mean he's been good enough and is certainly better than previous cheap options like Campoli and Picard, not to mention the Webers and O'byrnes of the world, but I think he's still the most obvious starter to upgrade besides Moen.

I don't see Armstrong coming back, he's better than many people here give him credit for IMO but if anything Dumont seems to me to be an obvious replacement. Like Armstrong, Dumont has more skill than the average grinder and gives us what the broken down old Armstrong can't anymore. But if anyone should be moved and replaced, it's Moen, especially if the team is looking for another fighter (who can play hockey)

Really?
Both the DD and Cube signings are weird. I don't like either of them. But Bergy must have a way of thinking on these things, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. He's the GM, I'm a stupid fan. But seems weird.

I dunno how someone can 'hate' this deal...He's gonna be a 7th D that is mobile, reliable and can temporarily replace any of our puck moving D in case of injury. Yes he can be pretty terrible offensively when he has the puck, but 1.5M...who can you even sign at 1.5M theses days.

If Bouillon would have some offensive upside, he'd be Enstrom

Gauthier traded players between periods and Bergevin signs players between periods

I think Prust , Armstrong , Bouillon and Budaj do a lot to help lighten the atmosphere in the room and make it a good working environement which was one of the reason why they were signed (not just that but it was part of it). This reflect on the ice as well the guys seems to fun playing and to quote Lex Luger "They look unify as a unit". The working atmosphere and room under Gauthier/Gainey looked toxic , almost funeralesque (is that a word ?)

There is a reason why they got rid of Cole as soon as they saw that he was unhappy. Sure getting rid of his contract was the main goal but i'm pretty sure also getting rid of a guy who was apparently moody in the room was part of it too.

I'd keep Armstrong over Dumont or Moen, all 3 lacks finish. But I find that Armstrong has the best hockey vision, he always gets great scoring chances.

As I read the posts, I realize Cube at 7 D next year is OK, contrary to my above post. He's a Hab through and through, and would die for a cup here. He will also help Tiny.

As for why now? Pretty obvious: I think Cube went to Bergy and asked. His wife probably had something to do with it as well. Smart move on Cube if he did.

Now he can concentrate on play, and the playoffs, with no worries.

Hopefully we just replaced our 6th Dman with player making 400k less (Tinordi) and we just replaced our 7th/8th Dman with one player that makes 3.8m less (Bouillon) and AHL call ups (Pateryn, Beaulieu, Ellis, and St. Denis)

I mean its great business if that's the case and I can't be upset about it.

If Moen is not a monster in the PO this year, which is what he was brought here for, including scoring a few key goals, then Bergy will toast him, guaranteed. I'll be watching Moen in the PO very closely, as he could make the difference between going 1 round, or 3. Watch with me. This is Moen's last chance in Montreal.

Same cap hit (higher cap hit to cap ratio) so likely same role. I guess Colby Armstrong is next.

Good deal. Bouillon is solid and steady and bring experience and leadership. Perfect bottom pairing guy. Nothing wrong with depth, especially on defense.

Injuries will happen so it's better to sign Bouillon.
He's been fine this year and I don't see a problem with the signing.

He's played okay, but he seemed like the most obvious guy to upgrade in the offseason with our cap space. I really don't buy this 7th d-man crap, he hasn't sit once this year and I don't see it happening next year.

If we want to upgrade this summer with a top 4 D why can't we? Bouillon isn't replacing subban, markov, emelin, gorges or Diaz so what's the concern?

Nothing wrong with this signing. Bouillon has certainly contributed
enough so far to justify his contract. He may be able to do it again next
year. And if someone like Tinordi outplays him, then he provides very solid
depth as 7th.
Paying him 1.5, instead of asking him to take a pay cut. That may
be paying a little in order to show respect. But there is nothing wrong
with that for a hometown vet. It would only be 2-3 100K anyway.

But had they signed him for more than one year, then I'd have been
pissed-off.

Generally not a very smart move to be paying your 7th D 1.5 million to sit in the pressbox.

.... it's 1.5 million dollars. It's nothing in the grand scheme when we have so much cap space.

It's not a smart move to have 11 million in cap space... I'd prefer he spent it on solid vets with contract who won't hurt the habs in the future, which is exactly what Bouillon is signed to.

Point being that if your rationale allows you to spend 1.5 million dollars on your 7th D who will be sitting in the pressbox, you might not have all that capspace for much longer. Bad cap management adds up quick.
