If someone claims him....are we on the hook for any part of his salary? If so for how many years? Or is that only on re-entry waivers?

Rules are confusing!

So if a team picks him up, are we on the hook for half his salary?

I really wish he was given a fair chance this year, but oh well. Hope he gets claimed and plays in the nhl. Good luck to him wherever he ends up

Re-entry waivers don't exist anymore.

leafs made the mistake they can pay for it now. Not my money... It looks bad when you have all these plugs in the minors IMO. not sure on that specific rule though

There is no such thing as re-entry waivers now.

since he waived his NMC to be put on waivers, i'd assume going to the marlies is allowed because the NMC was waived.

I thought they did away with re-entry waivers in the new CBA?

I'm 90% sure they took that out in the new CBA...

Edit: Yep, from Cageek: Reentry waivers have been eliminated in the new CBA.

Can we merge the 2 threads please mods? There's a lot of good discussion happening in both and I don't want to keep going back and forth.

There is no re-entry in the new CBA, he just wants somewhere to play at this point...closest thing would be Leafs eating half his salary and taking a 7th or expiring minor leaguer for him and I can't see Nonis eating any of his salary next season...

Curious to see if anyone bites on this. Certainly possible. Getting paid a million less than his cap hit and only for one more year. Maybe a budget team needing the cap hit will go for it?

Either way it's good for Komisarek. Gets to play hockey somewhere and if he stays and gets the buy-out then at least he has some play to back up trying to get a new contract somewhere else.

He won't be claimed but I can see why Komisarek would agree to be put on waivers. If he gets claimed, great, a fresh start for him elsewhere but most likely, he will pass and play a little bit in the AHL. Perhaps some scouts will notice his game and a team might be willing to give him a chance as right now he is not even playing. Its possible that he could end up impressing the Leafs down there as well... at least enough to get him in a game. I think he has actually played well this season in limited games.

He had 3 seasons to be " given a chance' , he didn't live up to his contract, until he played decent this year , but was 3 years to late. See yea Mike

He will get claimed, they are few teams in the league that could use his services with injuries and all, and he is still a decent bottom-pairing defender.

I think Car, Ott, Isles are among the few names who could possibly put a claim on him.
