There has been a ton of money spent during the past 4 years that amounted to absolutely jack squat. No wonder the board wanted a change. Good on Nonis for getting rid of the dead weight, he seems to be making all the right moves so far.
Worst CorsiOn ratings on the Leafs this season:
Holzer -27.49 now in the AHL
Komisarek -26.66 now on waivers
McClement -25.62 looks bad but faces the toughest opposition on the team
Kulemon -17.45 still bad but is facing tough minutes against the opponents best corsi players
MCLAREN -17.15 this is the next guy who should go if there's a better option. His quality of competition isn't that great and the Leafs are still in their own end more then in the oppositions when he's on the ice.
After spending all but four games watching the Toronto Maple Leafs play from the press box, veteran defenceman Mike Komisarek is on waivers, one step closer to either being picked up by another team, or moving to the American Hockey League.
Komisarek, 31, has a no-movement clause in his contract, and a source close to the move said the player and the team reached an agreement to waive that clause. Komisarek is on the usual 24-hour waiver period.
If he goes unclaimed, it is believed he will report to the Marlies, Toronto’s AHL affiliate.
Komisarek is in the fourth year of a five-year contract with the Leafs. He carries a cap hit of US$4.5-million. The NHL trade deadline is April 3, but it is not believed there was much interest in acquiring him at that price.
Komisarek skated with the Leafs in their pre-game skate on Wednesday, the same day the team recalled 22-year-old defenceman Jake Gardiner from the Marlies. The Leafs are in the middle of a five-game winless skid, and host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday night.
Even Komi going to the Marlies frees up a bit of cap space. On the Leafs, his full cap hit counts against the cap; on the Marlies, all but $900,000 counts against the cap. Of course, even without the Komi move, the Leafs had $7.5M in cap space.
When Holzer is recalled to replace Komisarek on the roster that $900k saving is re-utilized on a better and a younger player.
So this is a great move for the Leafs.
Signature: There is no greater demonstration of Fan patience then to suggest to "Play the Kids " and be willing to accept the consequences of those actions..
Holzer is at the best a bottom pairing stay at home shut down defensemen, komisarek has more talent to be in the second pairing.
I personally believe that the predators might pick him up. I believe Hall Gill is injured.
holzer was never signed to be a top pair defenseman ....he is a great 5-6-7 guy .. nonis is doing what MSLE is directing him to do ....
hes a puppet ,he knew exactly what he was drawing up when these crappy contracts were offered ,unless he went and told the new owners he fought against every lousy contract, nonis is doing what hes told to do to try save face in hockey
the leafs are vastly overated and even their prospect pool isnt as great as we all hope
