Maybe something like this for the lines next season as a possible base?

Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Read-Schenn-Simmonds
Gagne-Couturier-Flanagan
Rinaldo-Talbot-McGinn
I don't understand how you can pencil him into the line-up next year before he even plays his first professional game

I wouldnt be surprised if their looking at Greg Carey. Flanagan's linemate. Maybe even signing Flanagan is trying to promote Carey to come here. By all accounts, the kid has the best wrister out of every player in the ufa class and one of the best in the NCAA.

He has one of the best I've ever seen. He wrists it with more velocity than most NCAA kids slap shots.

That said, hope the Rangers are looking at him. If I had to wager on at least one f the two becoming a full time NHLer, I'd do it.

I to was impressed with the "C". You cannot have enough character players on the team. Here's wishing the young man good luck.

If we could grab any of those three I would be happy. Schmidt seems like he is a Flyers type player and Hartzell was invited to our camp.
maybe Holmgren thought we were getting Hartnell's brother until he realized when he got to camp it was Hartzell.

That's definitely plausible. Didn't they sign Cousin's linemate from his OHL team for similar reasons?

Ya. Cousins was signed already but they saw alot of Alderson and they liked how he played with Cousins so they signed him.

On that note, hoping they draft Sergey Tolchinsky who was the other winger on that line. The kid from Russia is GOOD. 51 points in 62 games as a rookie for SSM. Looking at him in the 2nd or 3rd round. Has a strong work ethic. Displays HIGH end offensive skill but is iffy in the defensive end (not that he doesnt try, just not the best at it).

That would definitely be interesting. You can teach a guy how to be a better defensive player, but you can't teach a guy to have a better skill level.

You can certainly improve in some areas, but most guys are already highly skilled if they're drafted to be offensive players. I only said that it's easier to teach a guy how to be more responsible defensively than it is to teach a guy to have world class hands, skating, passing, offensive awareness, etc.

Rinaldo has never been an ofensive dynamo at any level, but the coaches are working him into a better defensive forward for the fourth line. There's not a coach in the world or a training regiment that can turn Zac Rinaldo into a twenty goal scorer.

I came here to post this. I want Carey signed far more than Flanagan, but I am still excited about scooping up Kyle. Best of luck to him.

I like the idea of having Flanagan in Adirondack, even if he doesn't pan out to the Flyers because he seems to have the potentially of making his wingers better, and that would be important for Noebels, Akeson, Wellwood, etc. Success begets success and a strong Phantoms line-up has a better chance of producing impact players.

I know it's been addressed but I just wanted to confirm two critical points about this signing:

1) He's an ATO and the contract is for next year so he isn't counting towards our 50 contracts right now.
2) His 1-way deal means (almost) nothing. That merely indicates his salary is the same whether in the AHL or NHL. Waiver eligibility is based upon age in which you signed and games played. Being that he hasn't played any games, he will be waiver exempt so he can play in the AHL.

Depending on when his birthday is it will either be 2 years/60 games or 1 year until he loses exempt status.

I'm still getting the ins and outs of the new CBA, but would he count towards the Cap now if he's sent to the AHL with a one-way deal?

He's on an ATO (amateur tryout) much like Mathers and Cousins last year.

It depends how much he makes. If it is over $900k then yes. The threshold is the minimum salary +350k which places it at $900k for now.

I highly doubt he is over $900k though. It would be really, really dumb to sign an NCAA free agent to a deal that is going to hit your cap immediately (unless you expect him to immediately contribute at the NHL).

For comparison, Matt Read's cap hit has been $900k on his current deal.

Edit: Also just saw the post above mine...he most certainly would not hit the cap "now" as in this season as he is an ATO (so not a contract). I was speaking towards his actual contract next year...sorry.

Its hard to judge an NCAA player on stats, and Kyle is a middle aged prospect already.

But having seen him play probably around 50 games, were I a betting man I'd put money on the kid to be an NHL player in some capacity. He isn't too different than Peverley was when he was here, though Rich is the superior skater.
