So you know that they've changed since then, but I can't? Seems like quite the double standard. I'm putting out a HISTORIC comeback, IN THE PLAYOFFS, but no, that doesn't mean anything?

I think the "core" has been fine, the surrounding cast of bottom 6 forwards and 4-6 Dmen has been quite bad for many years.

The D is sorted out now, but the bottom 6 is still laughably bad.

You clearly are intimately familiar with the behaviors of not only the Sharks but also every other team around the league, so I'll take your word on this matter.

How is this something we could possibly know? It's like people blaming Marleau for not showing his emotions. Some people just don't show their emotions in public easily and that also doesn't mean that they don't leave it all on the ice. For all we know, they rage in the locker room. It's not something that's easy to know.

So I guess if the Sharks started pointless fights late in games means they care? Why not come out with that kind of energy.

so you really are talking about dirty plays, you are completely lost at what grit actually is.

Semin hit Boyle into the boards and Boyle then slew footed him. Joe Thornton speared Jamie Benn after being speared then they fought a few weeks ago.

"Dirty's" definition has moved a lot. Catching a guy with his head down is now illegal!

Grit is such a garbage term, it's almost completely meaningless and some of the best players in history have 'lacked' it.
If I could get HFBoards to ban 'grit' and 'heart' as foul words I would. Takes any reasonable discussion and flushes it down the toilet as soon as either of those words come into play.
Which players are these?

Gretzky actually had quite a bit of sandpaper to his game...he just solely relied on stick slashes and hacks instead of elbows and hitting.

Moreover, even if Gretzky was a total pansy, he was also a generational talent. When Thornton can score 160+ points, then he can be as soft as a piece of toilet paper.

Fighting is also illegal...which is why a 5 minute penalty is handed out for it. Doesn't meant it shouldn't be done at times.

What Boyle did, IMO, shows something about his character. His willingness to engage physically, the seriousness with which he takes his game, etc.

Boyle just talks big but Thornton emits such a burning manly spirit that it makes Apollo weep with joy and causes titans to kneel in awe. So idk where you're getting all of this Thornton doesn't have grit from. Watch the game bro.

Thoughts?
Some of these examples arent very good. Holmstrom and Clearly are gritty guys but they were just good depth players. The guys driving the bus: Lidstrom, Zetterberg, Datsyuk arent really gritty but they know that come playoff time they have to be the best players every night, no excuses. Which cant be said for Thornton, Marleau and other key Sharks players over the years.

Gretzky and Lidstrom were the two that came to mind immediately. But again, since 'grit' is such a meaningless term I'm sure you can find some way to define it that fits those two.
