His ES production was more second-liney in those years, though. He made up for it on the PP.

Ovi had tended to do better away from Laich than with him in the past, but that may have more to do with who Laich was replacing than Laich himself. Not high on my list of concerns with this roster going forward.

And that's exactly what he'd be doing 'if Ovechkin gets firing again'. He'd be a complementary guy on that top line and on the PP. And he'd put up numbers.

I can't recall Ovie and Laich playing on the same ES line for more than a game or so, ever. Laich on the LW and Ovie on the RW would be something totally new.

Would Caps fans be interested in Keith Ballard? I'm guessing everyone knows his story (being behind Edler + Hamhuis and being forced to play in a role that doesn't properly utilize his skills)

That's a good point. Most of it would have come with Laich at C.

As I said, not high on my list of worries.

Not at that salary! I proposed Kesler + Ballard for Marcus Johansson and Mike Green at the end of last season, but the two big pieces injured I don't think it's such a good idea at the moment.

Perreault needs to replace Ribeiro next year on the 2nd line C spot.. Perreault is so underrated.. We never needed Ribeiro. That was a bad trade.

My idea of lineups for next season:

Forsberg/Backstrom/Ovechkin
Clowe/Perreault/Brouwer
Fehr/Laich/Ward
Taffe/Beagle/Johansson

Alzner/Green
Hillen/Carlson
Smid/Orlov
Oleksy

If you double his ice time and his stats that will put him up close to Ribeiro and he's 8 years younger.

I like how you slipped Jeff Taffe in there on the 4th line, and have Hillen above Smid on the depth chart. Also, Johansson at RW, where he's never played before (and would be on his off wing), and Forsberg a lock as 1LW.

That's just my opinion... I like how you come to criticize it 10 mins after the post.

Purrutu is grossly underrated but he shouldn't be a 2c on a contender. We should trade him to a lottery team for value. On the other hand, we are a lottery team.

What exactly is your opinion?

When you post something (especially a lineup), you're inviting people to comment, including criticism. Something you should probably know before going on the internet. People ripped mine to shreds too.

Instead of feeling like you've been personally insulted, you could try responding with the reasons you put the players in those spots.

My trade deadline day entertainment has gone from "I wonder if we'll be able to add some great talent" to "I wonder what idiotic moves the Caps will make this year?"

Alzner is the only one that warrants a higher salary than Mojo. People underrate him so much on here. He's still young and has time to get better and stronger. Just because he's not like Ovechkin or Backstrom or Carlson where they were top players right away, doesn't mean he's not good right now, with a chance to be very good down the road.

Pittsburgh traded their excess d depth for Neal and Kunitz. We protected our nuts for a ten year window. Is this year one or two?
