This came out. NHL.com Mock Drafts

I don't put much stock in these guys particular selections but all information has some value.

What can anyone tell me about Mantha, Burakovsky, and Guathier? I'd kill to be just a bit higher and have a shot at Barkov or Drouin but there appear to be some fantastic center and winger options in the top 15.

This is from a few pages back ... quote blanked out some of the info so I just had to re-post:

I still think though that Dallas is more likely to be picking from 11-20 on McKenzie's list and probably Top 15. Frederik Gauthier stuck out to me even though Dallas hasn't taken many Q players, and I can't even think of the last Q forward they drafted.

So toolsy for a big man. Speed, hands, and two-way sense. RT @DiehardOil: @coreypronman Looking for your take on Frederik Gauthier?
http://www.thescoutingreport.org/ars...ts-on-round-1/
Quote:
He may look small next to Morin, but Frederik Gauthier is no slouch. Playing in his first QMJHL season, Gauthier not only leads QMJHL rookies in scoring, but also sits atop his team scoring race. After strongly considering the NCAA route, Gauthier stayed home to play Midget AAA last year before eventually electing to pursue a career through the QMJHL. It appears that the extra year of Midget has had some positive effects as Gauthier carried his team to a berth in the Telus Cup last year while developing into a polished two-way center.

To sound cliche, the sky may be the limit for Gauthier. While there’s still a lot of room for growth and development, Gauthier skates very well and obviously has the type of size that NHL teams will salivate over. The left-shot center plays well with linemates and has quickly developed natural chemistry with Peter Trainor and Scott Oke this season. There’s still a lot of hockey left to be played this year, but it’s become quite clear that Gauthier is a player who is flying under the radar. At this point, the 1st round certainly wouldn’t be out of the question if he can continue to produce at his current clip while showing all-around improvement.

4 – Frederik Gauthier, Rimouski Oceanic – C
Mid-Way through his rookie QMJHL season, Gauthier’s decision to stay in Canada over the NCAA route seems like a good one. He’s the type of player every coach dreams about. He’s got size, skill and smarts and he knows how to use all his tools. The towering center is capable of being a good shutdown center while also scoring goals. Gauthier has earned key minutes and the trust of coach Serge Beausoleil which is important for his development moving forward.

Burakovsky has great upside. He's a really good playmaker but is perhaps more of a shoot-first player. Excellent skating and speed. He has played center quite a lot on his junior team but I think he should be viewed as a winger. Consistency has been an issue for him this season but he is more involved in the games now and scores more points than he did to start the season. His father was one of the greatest talents to ever come from Sweden but he was known for being extremely lazy on the ice and in the gym. André works a lot harder but he is not great defensively and he often tries too hard.

I want Gauthier pretty badly. He's starting to become my favorite player in this draft besides Jones and Barkov. Not many forwards I'd rather have than him.

Also, if Nichushkin is available when we pick, we have to take him. I don't really care about the issues he has in Russia, as without those, he'd be a top 5 pick pretty easily.

Fairly meh on Gauthier. Mantha goal totals are gaudy.

I still think we need another top echelon D-man. If we could grab one of Pulock or Ristolainen (if they fall), Zadorov or Nurse I think that'd be a good pickup.

One of Faksa's linemates tonight is 2013 draft eligible Justin Bailey. He's got nice size at 6'3", and he's not exactly thin as a rail being listed at 183 lbs. as a 17 year old. He's obviously got some filling out to do.

Quote:
The highly touted power winger was ranked 37th among North American skaters when the NHL Central Scouting midterm rankings dropped last week

....

The Williamsville, N.Y., native offers huge potential by virtue of his quickness and a body that will probably allow him to put on bulk without sacrificing mobility.
Quote:
"He's a big guy, uses his size well," Edwards, who saw Bailey during the summer at a USA Hockey camp in Rochester, N.Y., told NHL.com. "He's got a real good shot and he's able to get it off coming in off the wing. For a guy that really never played at much of a [high] caliber before, he looked like he had it all together. He looked like he had an offensive touch to him. He used his size well. I left Rochester thinking he might be a top forward with a really good skill set. That's what I still think he's going to be."

Mega bump!

So I'm pretty excited for the draft this season. I'm really hoping we have two first rounders this year. Would really like to pick up another center and a two-way winger *cough* Mantha* *cough*

Biggest question at the moment...who will be the GM come this day in June?

I'll go with 1 first round pick, 3 second round picks (Currently have 1), and 3 third round picks (currently have 2) after the trade deadline.

I'd love a 1st rounder though ... Roy may be the best opportunity. There's going to be fewer centers available than wingers. If they were ready to move him, Robi honestly probably could get 1st because of how dire everyone is looking for D + he's a rightie.

Couldn't care less .... Les Jackson is still going to be directing the table. As long as whoever is with him at the table as GM isn't trading away picks .... just don't care who his boss is.

Only if he is well enough by the deadline. He looked pretty shaken up after taking that puck to his helmet.

Symptoms could definitely creep up later, but the reports are he's fine. I think he was just in a ton of pain maybe more so than loopy.

McKinnon, Drouin, Jones or Barkov...we'd be fine with any of those four. All good players and all will be good NHLers.

well that would be 1st overall so you are looking at our first, a couple of prospects and a player. It may take something like Chiasson, Oleksiak, Eakin, and the 1st. cray. That may not even be enough. Other teams may have a higher pick to offer with their prospects and player. hard to say.

Honestly I'd rather trade for Schultz in Edmonton. That kid is the next Zubov, no doubt.
