You did notice that Oil were playing with one center for most of the 3rd. Horcoff left and Smyth was basically getting triple shifted. Gagner also was hurting. This falls directly on Tambo for allowing the team to play with two C's to start the game. What a joke. Get an actual NHL C to help this team out.

Hemsky has never once looked like he's "trying" on a shootout attempt.

we needed a save in the 3rd and Dubey didn't have it

doesn't help that Whitney took a stupid penalty

This was dumb. As is slotting Fistric at RD. Some of the posters above are right, these are some god awful coaching decisions.

MPS being double-shifted, on the other hand, brilliance.

Seeing how tight the West will be this year with no interconference games, I'm afraid these three points they have gift wrapped Vancouver, Detroit and San Jose will come back to haunt them.

The worst part is Staios actually knew his limitations.
I'm more confused about your accusation that the Oilers dumped Grebeshkov because he's Russian.

FTR: Grebeshkov went back to Russia the next season and never came back, the Oilers were lucky to unload him for a 2nd round pick.

Good. I pray for it, actually. I've seen enough out of Dubie for the season, I think.

Petry had a poor game, but Garbagekov was a bakers dozen times worse! N. Schultz I thought wasn't too bad tonight.

Dubs on the other hand.. great at letting in steaming piles of snip*!

Unsustainable indeed.
Seems to me that teams have clued in to not give him space. Results in convergence on Eberle, and, with mediocre support, he's more often turning it over than chipping it to an open man.

What's brilliant about double-shifting a player playing great? That's called common sense, not brilliance. It's pretty easy to figure out, to be honest.

coach has a paajarvi boner. lets not forget duby is like top 10 in save percentage this year......Goalies that have played 20+ games with a better save percentage than him. Bobrovsky, Rask, Lundqvist, and Niemi. Dubnyk is also top 10 for games played this year with 25. Top is 28.. Give the guy a break. There was no defensive coverage on those two goals, even if he should've had them

Looking at the western standings right now... Those will probably be the playoff teams in the end. Just makes sense.

It shouldn't have gotten to overtime. Dubnyk has to make those saves! Does anyone have eyes in their head? Its the MO of Dubnyk to crumble in the third.
If Dubnyk has the sv% of other quality goalies...then why don't wait trade for one straight up.
I just can't handle seeing him in net anymore.

Too be fair Hemsky is so cool that even when he's trying it doesn't "look" like he's trying.
That said he needs to be better than he has been for the last handful of games.
He came out of the gate hard but he's reverted to some pretty lackluster play lately.

I hate how hemsky holds his stick in shootouts he obviously cant shoot the puck with his right hand that high so the goalie knows he is going for a dangle no matter what and that he won't be able to raise it.

Not going to get into Eberle, but Justin Schultz is what he is - a rookie defenseman struggling with even strength minutes in a top-4 role. If our GM was competent he'd have a steady partner in a bottom-6 role or a rock-solid shutdown partner (Smid) in a 2nd pairing role. He isn't, so Schultz is having the obvious struggles in his role.

He's never been an effective even-strength point producer or offensive kick-starter at the NHL level - most of his points seem to be coming on the PP.

I would do much rather yak learn by making a mistake that costs us a game in overtime than sitting on the bench watching how not to play. Both approaches may even have the same result, but how is he going to learn with this garbage. I forsee healthy scratches in the playoffs.

how so? How was his game any worse than any other Dman playing tonight? He was aggressive yet didnt take any stupid penalties.. generated some chances offensively and was solid enough defensively... not perfect but far from 'poor'..

Cuthbert definitely is. Johnson is just another example of a retired NHLer getting a job in media when me might not necessarily deserve it. These kind of guys can give great insight, but Johnson and PJ Stock are two of my least favourite guys at doing so. Rayzer and Noodles are both prime examples of fantastic players-turned-analyst, and love him or hate him, Pierre McGuire is the class of ice-level commentators. If you can ignore his obnoxious attitude (listen to him on TSN 1050 sometime), you can really see how knowledgable he is.
