No, Caruso is a Petes prospect we were discussing.

Sorry for the confusion.

Kid's a real gritty and skilled player with a strong stride.

I think he should be a late first rounder. If Ottawa could secure Day and Kries with their first 2 picks this year, along with the young talent they have, then they can become contenders in 2 years.

That would be nice, but until I see it in writing on Hockey Canada's website or memo, I am not sold.

Boka ( Days teammate ) sent him a tweet on twitter congratulating him on getting status.

@nboka10: Congratulations to @SeanDay66 on getting exceptional status into the ohl draft #unreal

I don't think he'd tweet it unless Day told him himself

Funny you should ask.

There was a memo from Hockey Canada to OHL member clubs and OHL Central Scouting announcing the decision. I'm going to make the assumption that was the same memo that McKenzie got his hands on.

PUT A FORK IN IT, SHE'S DONE.

I have a friend, who has a barber, who has a friend, that has an exwife, that knows the rink attendant at the local arena, and they confirmed that DAY got ES. LOL

Getting an email with the Hockey Canada memo attached from a member of OHL Central Scouting is a bit different.

OHL has a media call for Day scheduled for 3pm, I may be able to get the number if you'd like to call in.

No way the bulls take a goalie early in this draft! Graham will be the man next year and if they can sign Hayden Lavigne, the crease duo will be full.

Pardon my ignorance, as the only junior hockey I usually follow is the USHL due to proximity, but does Day's exceptional status mean he can be drafted a year earlier by the NHL as well or that he can only just start a year earlier than he would've otherwise been able to in the OHL? I assume the latter, but wasn't sure.

Yes just the one year earlier into the OHL, which is a huge advantage to the team that gets him because you have a guaruntee'd 3 years.

"@OHLHockey: 15-year-old Sean Day granted "exceptional player" status by @HockeyCanada as announced by @OHFHockey today he is eligible for 2013 #OHLDraft"

The press release is available on the front page of the OHL Website. Doesn't get anymore official than that. So now it's safe to say its confirmed.

Early into the OHL yes but not early into the NHL the draft year stays the same.

Good to know, thanks. Figured that that'd be the case, but wasn't sure if there was some stipulation about the NHL only going by age for entry into the draft or if they had some sort of "x # of years in major junior" exemption for players that get a jump start in the CHL.

Well, if an ES player were to not make the NHL immediately after being drafted, they could play in the AHL at 19 because they would have played four CHL seasons.
