Not really discounting. Just think it's funny how people are convinced it'll be a Hawks/Ducks WCF simply cuz they've had regular seasons so far. It happens every year. And the Hawks team is very different from the one that won 3 years ago.
I don't think anyone said they are convinced it will be a Hawks Ducks WCF. In the predict the playoffs at the halfway mark thread a week or so ago... I predicted a LA/Chicago WCF. That doesn't mean I'm going to say LA has been better than Anaheim thus far this season though.
Playoff hockey is decided by matchups over a 7 game series. VERY DIFFERENT ANIMAL than the hockey we are seeing right now.
Thats why playoffs rarely ever go to script according to the seeding.
Not saying there aren't. You're twisting my words.
I'm just trying to make sure you apply the same rules to your team. It's not exactly unheard of for people to speculate on which teams could go far based on regular season play. Some people get paid a lot of money for that type of analysis. Until the playoffs start and the teams play, it's the regular season that makes an argument one team is better than another.
seeding doesn't really matter in this playoff for the most part....but as a ducks fan i would love to get the no.1 seed, Anaheim for whatever reason is just great at home, and our goalies will be fresh which i think could be key going forward
This is just silly to me. People are basing everything on roughly 30 regular season games and acting like the Hawks and Ducks are locks for the WCF. Shouldn't we all know better by now? And call me when BB figures out how to coach in the playoffs. And how are either of those teams a significant favorite if they played the defending champions in the playoffs like someone suggested? A healthy Kings team in the playoffs is still the best team in the west.
Predictions are based on past performance, homerism, etc. I predict a Ducks/Hawks WCF because they are both doing well and I would like to see it but nothing is a lock until it happens. Ducks aren't even a lock to make the playoffs yet.
If you're arbitrarily going to split the 15 teams into four "tiers" then it looks pretty good. Perhaps some teams are sitting on a fence between 2-3 and 3-4, but nothing they should really have the right to complain about. Well done, OP, it's nice to see a thread in NHL talk that isn't idiotic for once.
This is true but they're very different teams from those championship teams. The Ducks didn't even make the playoffs last year. And the Hawks lost in round 1 two years in a row.
I don't understand how that has any impact on how the teams are playing or how they will play in the playoffs this year. For a lot of last season the Kings were playing way below expectations. They got it together in time to make the playoffs and have a great run. That does not mean conditions are even close to the same this year. Proof in point: The Ducks will most likely make the playoffs this year.
i just want to see the kings vs ducks this year...don't care about the round.
and after tonights game, hawks ducks would be a pretty spectacular series.
It would pretty much have to be the second round, right? I've been prepping my buddies for war for weeks

Oops, nearly forgot. I tend to agree with the OPs rankings for now. Pretty good assessment of where teams are right now, and agreed--Ducks made a great strategic move vs. the Pacific's big centers by picking up Steckel.
Who knows how these teams look in 20 games with trade deadline additions, injuries, etc. Best deadline moves L.A. could make would be giving Mitchell cybernetic knees and reinforce Greene's back with adamantium.
