TSN seems to think he was placed on the IR on March 7th but retroactive to Feb 22nd. Whatever that means..

My buddy said its a high ankle sprain which is bad but wouldn't tell me where he got his info..... Most likely incorrect.

So take that with a huge grain of salt.

Yea, if it was a high ankle sprain he wouldnt have been trotting along so quickly after the injury. High ankle sprains are worse than breaks as odd as that sounds. As far as recovery, especially for a goaltender.

The just updated it on HockeyCentral at noon. They say if it was a complete necessity, he could tape up his ankle and play through it but because Bishop and Lehner are doing fine, the team told him to rest up, take a couple of weeks and then hit the ice as there is no immediate rush to have him come back.

This is actually good news on multiple levels. First, it's not that bad the injury. Second, Anderson isn't like other goalies who would be worried that the kids are "stealing his spot". To me, this reflects well for how Anderson would take a decrease in playing time as we transition to either Lehner or Bishop years from now.

And third, it reiterates that we finally have goaltending depth.

When you're playing Veniza-calibre hockey, you don't have too much to worry about.

True, but being a starting NHL goalie is like being a starting NFL QB. The position is all-based on "what have you done for me lately." Often, the guys who play these positions are all too paranoid that the back-up is going to usurp them.

There are plenty of teams that sign back-ups that have zero perceived threat to the starter because the starter can't handle it.

Which is good because now we can focus on getting scoring depth.

Still waiting for him to come back. It was a real treat watching him play for us, not that I haven't enjoyed watching Bishop and Lehner playing for us. I hope he can return to his Vezina form when he comes back.

I just want him to return soon so he can have enough games played to be considered for the Vezina.

I think that ship has sailed, mostly because of this shortened season. Even when he does return, I don't see him playing every game like he did at the start of the season, whoever the backup is, they are going to get games based on how they played during Anderson's injury.

Saw Anderson and Cowen at Real Sports Ottawa on Friday night catching the Philly game...hard to get a read on him (obviously), but it was cool to see him and Cowen hanging out socially together like that, in public.

Anderson and Cowen were really cool, and it's amazing how much Cowen reminds me of Chara...heigh wise and goofy-look wise.

I did tell Anderson and Cowen that I no problem with the Daugavians penalty shot, other than one thing that REALLY pissed me off...that's all my 5 year old son wants to try in the basement since he saw the move...

For the most part, people left them alone, but I could tell Anderson was getting really tired of the questions about "when" he'd be ready...who wouldn't??

Anderson

Looked and couldn't find anything (on cell though) so sorry if this has been asked, but has there been any update on time frame on anderson's injury?

Thanks!

No, he'll be back when he's ready, it's what the media has been told for a week or 2 now.

he started taking light skates around march 16th.

yesterday the sens twitter mentioned that no updates on spezza or andersson

Yesterday was also a month since he was injured. According to garrioch it ended up being called a 'high ankle sprain'.

I had a high-ankle sprain last summer. I could easily go about my day but it would limit my physical activities. It took 6 weeks to heal fully. Its only been about a month for Andy, and these usually take about 8+ weeks to heal.

With the way Lehner and Bishop are playing, he can take his sweet time. Lehner posting almost identical numbers.

However, I want him back and playing again cause he deserves the Vezina!!

Unlikely he'll win it with the number of games he's missed, regardless of his stats.

I had a severe high ankle sprain in Grade 12 from wrestling. It takes its own sweet time to heal, and it seems stubbornly resistant to the kind of rehab efforts that can speed along a standard ankle sprain. The fact that it is a high ankle sprain means that the current timeline - 6 weeks - is pretty standard.

This whole situation has a bad vibe to me. I just feel like we wont get him back. Initially they were talking just a couple of days...

Sens like to keep things quiet. Before you know it, he'll be playing again.

Still no word on Andy.

Hopefully he's close, if Murray wants to turn Bishop into a piece for this season (as opposed to "futures" he might get in the offseason / closer to the draft), the window is there right now in Phoenix.
