Possible Toronto move coming?

So kind of an interesting move in Toronto today. The Leafs recalled Marlies captain Ryan Hamilton, which may be in case Lupul gets suspended. The only thing that gives me pause is this tweet.

#Marlies may need a new captain...Ryan Hamilton has 30 goals this season in AHL and would need to clear waivers to be sent back down.

We have enough forwards on the roster to cover for Lupul, why risk losing the Marlies Captain to waivers when they are poised for a strong playoff run again?

Are the Leafs going to move a forward in the near future and expect Hamilton to stay with the Leafs?

I'd think if he were a Lupul replacement, they could wait until the decision in... 1 hour.

Interesting. Dont see why they would risk losing him. Maybe Kulemin deal ??

Clearly the 27 year old minor league vet is sought after by many teams and will have no chance at passing back through waivers

Definitely a head scratcher, especially as we have all the left wings that we need at the moment. Unless it means MacArthur is going somewhere, which wouldn't surprise me greatly. Man, I hope to hell it's not Kulemin unless it is a totally massive, mind boggling overpayment. That Kulemin/Kadri/Lupul line is perfectly balanced just the way it is. And the way that it's going it will be the 1st line before very long. And, then, we can talk about what a terrific #2 centre Bozak makes.

Replacing Komisarek on the roster as will likely play tonight as Lupul will get a 1 game suspension

Leafs with Hamilton are at the 23 max roster spots.

With Liles/Gardiner being put back in the lineup over Holzer recently I think it shows Carlyle is shifting back to talent vs. such an emphasis on toughness.

I expect Hamilton to start playing over one of Orr or McClarent on the 4th line.

In normal years teams put less of a focus on bruisers play down the stretch drive. Toronto is no different.

he's exactly the type of guy trade-deadline sellers like to pick up to fill a roster spot for the end of the season. I could see a bunch of the basement-dwellers grabbing him for flexibility in trades, because they dont want to call up their prospects and 'ruin' them with a bad stretch run environment.

Yeah teams don't normally just give away these AHL vets for nothing if they don't have to. Seems like an odd move.

really don't know what to think of it to be honest. Would really suck if we lost him on waivers especially considering he's the captain of the Marlies and has been a huge part of their success the past few years especially last season going to the Calder Cup Finals. Another move besides Lupul getting suspended must be coming. You just don't bring up a guy for 1 game when you could lose him on waivers.

Wouldn't he just be taking Komisarek's roster spot? Not every move is dominos!!

Yeah that's a possibility, still seems strange to me though, why even risk losing him on waivers, unless your correct.

We need someone with AHL knowledge of rules of Vets on one team--I believe with Komi going down--they will be one over the roster limit

Turns out Hamilton could be sent back. Has to be on an NHL roster for 30 days or have played 10 games. He has played only 3 NHL games.

Correct me if im wrong, but after the trade deadline doesn't waivers not count anymore? like they cant be claimed by other teams? or is that only during playoffs were no re-claiming players happens

Would seem odd to me to bring up a forward to replace a defenseman, unless they were carrying 8 D before the callup. I think it's probably more to do with AHL veteran rules.
