Was Halifax's 12/13 Regular Season the Best in QMJHL History?

The Mooseheads enjoyed one of the most successful seasons in league history with 58 wins in the 68-game season. They nearly ran the table the last month, winning 16-of-17 games to end the season, and tied the league’s record for most wins by a team in one season. Their 120 points are second-most by a team in one season, two behind the 122 set by the Trois-Rivieres Draveurs in 1978-79, who achieved the feat playing four games more in a 72-game schedule.
Comparing the two best seasons:
TeamGames PlayedRecord (W-L-OTL-S-T)PtsWin%
Halifax6858-6-3-1-01200.882%
Trois-Rivieres7258-8-0-0-61220.847%

So while Trois-Rivieres finished with more points, they had played 4 more games than Halifax. Considering Halifax finished the season on a 17 game point streak (16-0-1-0), it's entirely possible to think that they could have won all 4 of those extra games, thus finishing 62-6-3-1 for 128pts.. which would give them the CHL record for most points in a season (currently 125), most wins in a season (currently 60).

They are also 4-1 in shootouts this year, as well as losing 3 games in overtime. So if you take those out, and add the OT losses to the regular losses, they went 54-9-0-0-5. 4 more wins would put them at 58-9-0-0-5. A great season, but not quite the best ever.

That's why I brought it up for discussion. Two different styles of hockey, as well as two different formats of how games are decided.

If they go 16-0 in the playoffs, we'll talk. If not, the team that went 15-0 still holds the crown.

Regular season be damned.

Wow 15-0 is pretty impressive in the playoffs. I think Saint John went 16-1 last year, losing a semi-final game to Chicoutimi.

It's a difficult balance to try and keep perspective on this season for Moose fans. I believe we have to acknowledge the great regular season we had, but know that the real hockey starts now, and the mentality has been President's Cup or bust since September. But there's 4 or 5 teams that have legit chances at winning it all this year, and 4 of those teams are going to be disappointed. Just because we go through a junior cycle where we have a contending team every 3 or 4 years, doesn't mean we're going to win it all. Halifax has found that out in 99, 00, 03, 05 and 08. It humbles you a bit, which I know has helped me keep a level head.

Pfft... They did that in best of seven playoffs though. Best of nine FTW.

The QMJHL was drunk in 1986, and decided to have best of nine playoffs. They didn't last long.

Just had to say, the OP clearly asks if it's the best regular season of all-time .. Why would playoffs factor into any of that discussion? lol.

Best Reg season, maybe not thanks to reesor's number crunching ... But damn impressive for we've seen the last couple decades. 350 goals and 58 wins. Wow.
