Still would be weird to risk losing an AHL 30 goal scorer though...

Maybe it's rewarding him for his strong play... who knows.

Shoudn't be a huge risk sending him back down though, I wouldn't think.

When Hamilton didn't make the team at the beginning of the season he had to be placed on waivers, why would he not to go back on now?

recall waivers have been eliminated in the new CBA. You only have to pass on the way down now.

Not what I meant, sorry. Was refering to the not having to go on wiavers if the Leafs wanted to send him down.

in that case, see the other part i just posted. If he had cleared waivers, and the leafs brought him back up in late january/early feb, and then sent him down again before february 16th, then he wouldnt have had to clear waivers that time because he had already cleared in the last 30 days.

if he is sent down next week, he has to clear waivers again.

waivers still happen, it's just that players claimed cannot play in the playoffs, so playoff teams generally ignore them unless they want to stash someone for next year.

but as i mentioned earlier, hamilton is attractive to non-playoff teams who want to keep their prospects on the farm (AHL playoff run maybe?) to avoid exposure to a bad NHL team. Those guys would still have reason to claim him if the leafs send him down after the deadline.

Exactly.

It's probably nothing more than a pre-meptive call-up just so that the team can have him with the team and available to suit up should another forward get injured during a road trip.

Not worth having people get their panties tied up in a bunch over.

Definitely a bit of a head scratcher. We could've just stuck McLaren back in the lineup and moved someone up to Lupul's spot.

No sense in potentially losing our Marlies captain without some good reason.

When reinking for this year he might have been promised an opportunity if he performed in the minors so the Leafs are just honouring that.

Moving him up also gives the Leafs a chance to give him an NHL test drive to see if they should reink him for a 4th line role for next year.

We did that for all those games when Lupul was injured. It seemed logical to do that as well if Lupul is suspended.

What are you guys talking about, he was sent down earlier this year, and hasn't gotten a year older or played any more NHL games since.

Maybe Komisarek is the new Marlie captain, and Hamilton fills in on the 4th line making, McLaren a 13th forward.

This is not true.

He has to play 10 games or spend 30 days on the roster to require waivers to be sent back down.
Anything less and he can just be re-assigned.

per Chris Johnston

#leafs Ryan Hamilton would NOT require waivers to be sent back down to the AHL if it happens before he plays nine more NHL games.
