Obviously I hope I'm wrong

On the other side of the river, the Olympiques made the playoffs and play Rimouski in the first round.

Home games in Gatineau are March 26 and 27.

I don't even know what to expect out of this series. By all rights, Rimouski should blow us out of the water, but I'm not so sure.

They haven't found much success against the Océanic this season, but they've gone and beaten all three division champions in their barns this season. Poorly as they've played, they always seem to get it together to at least play well against the top teams. They'll spoil Halifax's home opener (one of two home regulation losses for Halifax), then will turn around and lose to Saint John. They'll knock off the Drakkar up in the Côte-Nord, and then turn around and lose to the mighty Tigres. The real x-factor, is going to be Rimouski's severely depleted defence corps. Our only injuries are Soumakis, and we don't know what the hell's going on there, and possibly Réway who has a bad ear infection and might miss a game or two.

When the Olympiques are on their game, they can beat anyone. They could probably have home ice if they played like they can all year. They are a pretty good team on paper, but they're lazy, complacent *******s on the ice (save, obviously, for Burke, Boutet, et al.). Sure, the injuries to Réway, Hyka, Reggie, and Tardif-Richard as well as the WJC were poorly timed, and sure Groulx has brutally mismanaged the team, but those are hardly the only reasons for this ever so disappointing season. Teams with heart - like the Senators, for example - rise above, rather than succumbing to injuries. Maybe they'll actually care about the playoffs. Hopefully Steeves will actually show up. If they actually care, they'll at least stand a fighting chance. Otherwise, it will be a Rimouski sweep.

Will be interesting seeing who the 67's decide to take!

Hearing Sean Day, CDN who plays for Compuware minor midgets, has been granted exceptional status by Hockey Canada and is OHL draft eligible.

Idk man. From all reports they are absolutely in love with Konecny. Don't be shocked if they take him.

OHL draft April 6. OTT 1st pick. Can choose any eligible player, now incl Day. Some believe OTT will take Travis Konecny of Elgin-Middlesex.

This is what I'm saying. I know they have more picks, but passing on Day would be mistake especially given the situation.

Middleton will be a first pairing defenceman IMO.

I think there's a 50 50 chance on who they take.

We WILL know before the draft though, it's tradition in the OHL to have a sort of party thingy for some of the top picks. Teams commit to players before the draft.

I expect he and Vlajkov to be the top pairing at somepoint as the season goes on. Maybe right away.

Vlajkov improved a lot as the season went on. He was soooooo bad to start the season.

I guess now the countdown is on. I have a hard time seeing a situation where Ottawa doesn't take Day...so here's hoping.

Yes.

People need to stop thinking that exceptional status is only for every half decade when there is a John Tavares.

The CHL is looking for someone who is good enough to play in the OHL at 15, is mentally and physically able enough to be a player, and who has a good support system. So far all 3 exceptional status players to date have been incredibly successful.

To be fair Kilrea did say that Day is the best 14 year old he'd ever seen. It's not like he's just getting in because they expect him to keep his head above water.

I think people are also underestimating how GOOD you have to be to be able to be a productive OHL player when you are 15, and playing against 20 year olds. At most, Day has played with players 1 year older than him.

You have to be amazing to be able to play against people 5 years older.

I agree. I don't think granting three ES players in three consecutive years is a big deal. It doesn't take anything away from the word exceptional for me. These players are just THAT good. Hockey Canada does not make it an easy process so I would say he is very deserving, and if he wasn't they would have denied him.

With that said, I really hope the 67's take him. I can see him being an absolute beast on the back end for the next several years. The additional year is a bonus too.

How many 1st rd picks do the 67s have? Did they get any with their trades of Ceci & company? If so could they make a draft day deal to egt both? Would trading Monahan at the draft Do they have anyone else they could trade at the draft to move up?

You cannot trade first round picks in the OHL. The only way you can get an additional 1st Round Pick is as compensation if your 1st Round Pick does not your team (goes NCAA route, for example).

This year, the 67s have the 1st overall and 20th overall. They do not have a 3rd Round Pick. The OHL Priority Selection is 15 Rounds.

2013: 1st, 2nd, 4th, SAR 5th, 6th, 7th, SAG 7th, ERI 7th, 10th, 11th, 14th, 15th
2014: 1st, OSH 2nd, BEL 2nd, 3rd, SAG 5th, 6th, 7th, PBO 7th (*), 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, NIA 15th (*)

They have 2nd overall in the import draft. I wonder if there's a big time goaltending prospect to be had?
