It's hard to argue that point.

GM's do hand these NTC's out like they're going out of style that's for sure, and I really believe this is the biggest reason we see so little trades involving bigger names happening. They all have NTC's

I think you'd see WAY more moves taking place if there weren't so many of them. It really limits the market.
Big issues also are guys that can be NHLers, that simply are making too much money and no one wants them.

I don't know the answer as players are stubborn and don't want to lose money on a renegotiation of a contract. The owners don't want renegotiations back as then you have guys pouting that they are making 2mil but should make 6mil.

Be nice if there was a middle ground, because bad contracts are hurting deals.

So Talbot might be available.. N. Schultz for Talbot?

Then Belanger for D. Murray?

I hope they would ditch Ralph if Babcock became available. They keep talking about how this team wants to emulate Detroit's system, well what better way then to have the man that ran that system for years.

I would trade a 2nd for Talbot (as he is not a rental) than look to deal Whitney for a 2nd, so its like we traded Whitney (who we won't sign anyway) for Talbot. Than I would seek a Belanger/Smyth trade to clear up some room upfront.

Clears logjam upfront and on the back-end.

I love Talbot, I do, but I'm not interested in giving up assets for a pure bottom six player. Yeah he brings leadership and a bit of heart and soul, but right now he's not what we need.

Right now, we need that elusive 2nd/3rd line physical LWer who can drive to the net and dig pucks out. Also needs to have some semblance of hands.

If that isn't available, seek a top-4 puck moving D-man for the backend.

I think apart from that, we'll sit tight. We already have too much clutter in the bottom six. Adding another bottom sixer won't help that. No matter how many nice intangibles he brings.

We're more likely to bring back Renney than hire Babcock.

Anisimov, Foglino,or Dubinsky. Aren't they all in CBJ? Big, tough guys with skill and heart.

Frankly I think Talbot would be a great addition, you could swap him in for Jones with the Nuge and Eberle. He has experience playing with skilled guys and might be just the right fit. Either way, adding him wouldn't make this team worse.

I wonder if you could do something like.

To PHI: Petry, Hartikainen and a 2nd

To EDM: Meszaros and Talbot

Jason Gregor @JasonGregor
Many have asked if Oilers had interest in Sustr...Sources tells me he wasn't at the top of their list...like a few others better.

Hmm...wonder who Stu MacGregor and Tambo are liking better than the 6 foot 8 guy.

There is a goalie and a center I think they had their eye on in the college ranks. Can't be bothered to look them up.

But we also have a big college d-man we need to sign in Bigos.

Sustr might be huge, but from all accounts he's a project. And a pretty significant one at that. I'm not surprised we weren't overly interested.

I rather the Oilers go for Dekeyser or Schmidt (based on scouting reports).

Redline seems to really like Schmidt

Here's some info on him:

"Dan DeKeyser, defenseman, Western Michigan
The 6′-3″, 198-pound junior is regarded as the pick of the litter this spring. “He’s the total package,” one Western Conference scout said. “He put on some muscle this year, but he projects out to as a stronger player still. He’s got quick feet…great acceleration. Classic mobile defenseman. And he plays it smart. He’ll kill penalties, he’ll play late in close games. Just a very reliable kid.”

DeKeyser also earns high marks for his offensive game. He’s great in transition and can wire it from the point. His is not a heavy shot, but he’s very accurate.

The Red Wings are presumed to have an edge in the battle for his services. DeKeyser was born in Macomb, Mich., and his former coach, Jeff Blashill, is the head coach of Detroit’s AHL affiliate in Grand Rapids. He’s a patient kid — he could have turned pro last spring but decided he needed another year in college — and so Detroit’s slow-roast approach to player development won’t be an issue. Still, it’s thought that all 30 teams have some degree of interest in his services, and you never know who might give him just the right pitch."

I wonder if it was an Oiler scout that said that

Oilers are probably more interested in guys like
Eric Hartzell G .935 SVP
Antoine laganiere C (6.04 tall little skinny at 190) 27 pts in 31 games
Ryan Walters C (6.00 188) 52 pts in 39 games
Eriah Hayes F (6.03 210) 35 pts in 39 games.

These guys I listed are my speculation based on either size or position I am sure they are interested in dekyser but everyone knows about him recently.

Trust me I definitely want Dekeyser (no matter how remote our chances). When this board and thread were all up in arms about not taking Hall on waivers I pointed out then that I was happy we left a spot open for Dekeyser. Even if we don't get him we have to give ourselves the chance....

Dekeyser and JS would make a great pairing for us. We should get the fab 5 to go make a pitch to him.

DeKeyser is apparently a lock to go the Red Wings.

We've been heavily scouting Laganiere all season apparently.

I heard that too. Holy crap, now that is a guy you overpay for. He's a perfect fit for this team.

Unfortunately, he'll go to a legit playoff contender. I don't understand why he's available though. Inexplicable.
