Hitmen Playoffs #walktheline

Hey Guys,

not sure if there is enough interest in this, but I thought I would create the thread anyways. The Hitmen are starting their playoff run tonight down at the 'Dome against the Swift Current Broncos.

This is the all purpose Hitmen playoffs thread, I guess.

Go Hitmen Go!

(Also, mods can shut this down if nobody is into it haha)

As someone who said they would follow the Hitmen, and then failed to do so.

Would you mind giving me a run down of the teams best players/who to watch for?

For sure. I just work all the home games so I have sort-of an invested interest.

But Cody Sylvester, the captain and over-ager, was definitely the star player with 90 points in 68 GP.

Spencer Humphries is a key player on the back-end. Fights, plays a physical game, all the while contributing offensively.

Brooks Macek is the third and final overage player, with 80 points in 70 GP.

Others to watch are the Rookie Jake Virtanen, already ranked in the top 20 of the 2014 draft (? maybe it's 2015?)

And Pavlo Padakin. I have a man crush on the guy. From the old country (Ukraine) and probably the best penalty killer I have ever seen, I actually think that the Flames should take him if he is there in the 4th, 5th round, maybe even 3rd. And the guy is a super pest. The last three games at home, he had the entire opposing teams after him before the first period buzzer. Also, after he buries, he gives the tender a glove-bump, then skates over centre ice and salutes. What a beauty.

Obviously, Dreidger will have to keep up his stellar play between the pipes.

I am in class right now, but will give an even more in depth summary later.

Also, it might be useful to add that although the Hitmen are the favourites because they are the #3 seed in the Eastern conference, the Broncos have had their number all season, with a head to head record of 3-1 against the Hitmen this season.

Should be a fun series to watch.

Macek and Sylvester are a treat to watch. Roach as well. How long can these guys stay with the Hitmen? It feels like they've been on the roster forever.

I also agree Padakin is a beaut, I have no idea what a real scout would think he projects as but if he ever makes the NHL it would be awesome if he played for Calgary.

Macek is a 20 year old, he is done after this season. Same with Sylvester. Roach, if he doesn't play for the Kings or the Monarchs, he will be back as a 20 year old.

Flames prospect Coda Gordon plays for Swift Current.

This is my input to this thread.

Hitmen take a 1-0 series lead, with a 6-5 OT win.

Brassart had a hat trick, Roach with the OT winner.

Gordon had 2 points (1g, 1a) for the Broncos.

Yep, they were up 4-0 at one point and absolutely dominating the Broncos in every aspect, shots, hits, even faceoffs IIRC. And then they kind of blew it and ended up going to OT at 5-5.

Laurinikeien? No idea how to spell that. But anyways, he made an absolutely unbelievable save a minute before Roach buried in OT.

Game two goes tomorrow at 7:00 at the 'Dome. If you aren't doing anything come on down, the crowd was brutal tonight. Loud, but smaller than usual.

Go Hitmen Go!

Great thread goodsauce. And nice summary. I want to mention the Hitmen defence. They are all big, tough, good first pass and hard shots. Some shoot right, some shoot left but they all pretty much play the same. In fact, at the awards banquet for best D-man there were 3 co-winners and they could have given it to all 6! There are no specialists in the group. You mentioned Humphries, who is awesome but I like Jaynen Rissling the best of the group. But like i said, they are all good.

Well YAY. The Hitmen won 6-5 in OT. A blown 4-0 lead, 2 short handed goals, a penalty shot, a hat trick. Game had a bit of everything except fighting. Can't wait for tomorrow. Go Hitmen!

Also, the Blades lost game 1, which is great news for Hitmen fans.

Ya, that was crazy good. my view on it was perfect. I was worried the Broncos were gonna march down the ice and score because you see that so often. I wonder if that save made any national highlight reels?

Oh, and also a big HAHA to the people who stayed home to watch the Flames game. Don't make the same mistake Friday night! Seriously, if you want good seats, they are there. I'd say less than 4000 people in the Dome for game 1.

Yeah, row one seats are available by the dozens I am pretty sure. I think a non-club row 1 seat is like 30 bucks? maybe even less.

Anyways, hopefully we see a better crowd tonight, and the Hitmen are a happy bus on the way to Swift Current up 2-0 in the series.

7:00 puck drop at the Dome folks!

Yeah, pretty defensive game last night, complete opposite of game 1. Good to be going to SC up 2-0 in the series. IIRC they had some trouble in that building in the regular season.

Hitmen won tonight 1-0 in OT. Must have been a boring game. No goals through the entire 60? Yikes. There was a fight though.

Oh well 3-1 Hitmen on the series.

Opportunity to close it out on Thursday at home at the 'Dome. 7:00 PM Start. #packthedome I think is the hashtag they are going with?

Anyways, Go Hitmen Go!

Looks like the number 2 seed Saskatoon Blades are in big trouble. Hey goodsauce, what are your thoughts on a possible Hitmen vs Rebels series?
