I think some GM's are stupid enough to offer Washington a solid deal for Green so I don't think they'd need to buy him out, but yeah that contract is ugly since Green isn't the same player he once was.

As a Leafs fan, I have absolutely no interest in Mike Green. We have more than enough offensive-minded d-men.

What we need is a dependable, stay-at-home top four d-man that could play on the top pairing with Dion Phaneuf.

I'd love Green, stay-at-home d are overrated.

Gunnarsson, prospect, pick

I am one to think that Offensive d man are more then just for Power plays, they are good for Breakouts and keeps speedy guys to the outside... Gardiner and Rielly are both good two ways, Liles is also pretty good two ways for a offensive guy but hes just 2 small to knock guys around but hes good defensively. Green would be good. If the price is right, him and Phaneuf would be a solid pairing that would move the puck really well... Franson Fraser would be good and Gardiner Rielly would be crazy, so i actually think this lineup makes a lot more sense...

Phaneuf-Franson
Gardiner-Green
Fraser-Rielly

This is a REALLY good defnce. The only problem here is that if Gardiner and Rielly put up big numbers (which they will eventually) it leaves us with a really expensive d core.

Although i think by the time Gardiner and Rielly need big raises Green will be a UFA... The only thing i see here is it would knock Phaneuf Rielly Franson or Gardiner off one of the PPs... This is also assuming Liles is going the other way in the deal.

How about just gas money so I can drive him myself. I have been leading the "Trade Mike Green" movement for four your now. Only now people are starting what he really is.

The Corsi Numbers have pointed to Green not being a defensive liability. I would take him on TOR if the price is right.

would consider a Kessell for Green 1 for 1 swap. Dont think hes going to be traded for futures.

Definitely have no need for Green in Toronto, a player with value, just a terrible terrible fit in toronto.

xxxxx - Phaneuf
Gardiner - xxxxx
Fraser - Franson

Where does he fit in? Not with Gards, not with Phaneuf.

**** Mike Green. He's not what the Leafs need... especially not as a partner for Phaneuf who needs a defensive defenseman by his side (don't care how much better Green has gotten in this regard, he's not a "shut down" guy).

If we're going to go after an underachieving D-man with a serious cap hit, we should go after Tyler Myers.

Could be a reclamation project, "buy low" type of thing. He'd still cost a decent asset, but nothing like he would have 3 years ago.

He's a RHD, which is a huge plus. He's improved defensively as well. But health is a big concern, hasnt played a full season since what? 2009-2010?

Ok. We will just give all our good players to the Leafs for free because you are the leafs.

Buy a copy of NHL13 if you want Green or Backstrom for scrubs

Agreed. If we're looking for D (and we should be), and Washington,
I'm thinking more Erskine, since Alzner is not on the table at all.

I would take Green in Toronto but at the right price, for me something around Liles and a (mid level) pick, player or prospect for Green.

.... LOL Tyler Myers isn't your guy for a defensive d-man.

Don't want to thread jack but I am kind of surprised the idea of a Stastny for Green swap hasn't been brought up. They both address needs for the other team with similar cap hits and allows Washington to trade Ribeiro while he is worth a lot to fill the futures need as Ribeiro will likely go to a contender not wanting to give roster pieces. Not really a fan of either team but have liked both players in the past, though I admittedly don't follow them much anymore.

Not every god damn pairing needs a shutdown guy on the line... If both the guys are decent in their own zone and do there job its fine. Gardiner is pretty good defensivley if you ask me only thing he does wrong is lose position by rushing the puck sometimes, a defensive d man is no better then a offensive d man at two on ones, in fact i think the more athletic skilled d man are usually better at playing two on ones. Phaneuf is good in his own zone too... He doesnt need a stay at home d man beside him, stay at home d man are great, but only if they can move the puck well like Fraser. Also they need to have decent mobility to play top pairing with Phaneuf, isnt many of those around the league. Two two way d men on a line is fine. I think Phaneuf-Frason would be a good pairing.

Can we trade for green and ask him to not play defense again? I want the 30 goalscoring mike green back. Flyers could use a 4th forward on the ice every once and a while

Green isn't the same player he was, he is much more responsible

but its no secret how he scored so many points

-he is a great puck mover
-has a good shot
-playing with Ovi in his prime
-playing the Bruce Boudreu style of defence always joining the rush

but now after a few injury plagued seasons he just isnt the same dynamic player he was

-he has lost a step
-Boudreu played him to his strengths
-Ovi also isn't the same player

with his injury history, contact

and the fact that the Leafs have multiple player with the same skills

WHY do the Leafs trade for him
