Danny Briere is DEMOTED, or I guess Hartnell might be.
With the way Hartnell has looked this season, and the way Read and Voracek have looked, I like these combos on the top two lines. I think Couturier on the 4th line is a bit of waste. Send him down and let him get top line minutes in the AHL.

Put Hartnell down on the 4th too, it will fool everybody into a false sense of security when our 4th line is on the ice.

I'm not sure that sense of security will be false

True, but it would have to be close to the most expensive 4th line ever, right? That's gotta be worth something......

Get Coburn and Mez on the ice with them and it's possibly the highest amount of disappointment per cap-dollar in the NHL, especially if Bryz is playing.

Briere has just one assist this month - it's been more than a month since his last goal

Pretty sure Lavy said not to read into the lines at practice.

Sad thing is we won't be able to get anything for him. Who is going to take on 6.5 mill for the next 2 years. He will get bought out this summer. We need picks to rebuild our farm and our vets have little to no value. We may get something for Coburn or Talbot but things look bleak now and for the future.

The money/ cap hit in Danny's contract isn't the issue. His NMC is. If he could be moved anywhere, you could absolutely get a budget team to take him--his salary is $3 million next year and $2 million the year after. Even if he's a 40 point player, that's good value, and by all indication he has always been a strong lockerroom guy.

To your other point, there are plenty of teams that would love to trade places with the Flyers for the future. Giroux, Voracek, Schenn, Schenn, Simmonds, Couturier--all at or under 25.

Read, Coburn, Talbot, Mezsaros, and Grossmann are all also under 30. Hartnell is 30.

Among regulars, only Timonen, Briere, Fedotenko, Gagne, and Bryz are over 30--and Fedotenko and Gagne are UFAs.

This season has been a massive disappointment, but to say the future is bleak? I don't see it. Our farm system is thin, sure, but that's because the young talent that most teams hope will pan out is already in the NHL.

Which part do you disagree with?

I struggle to see how you can label the future bleak with that roster breakdown.

A team like Calgary? That I'd get. No present, and a very thing future. I'm just not sure how anyone can look at the Flyers team (as opposed to just system) and say that.
