Yeah, I think is just a message being sent (Not saying he won't be dealt in the future) at the moment. Boston's 3rd line has taken a lot of heat in the press for being ineffectual, the Bruins are in the midst of a mini-slump, so he sits a respected veteran to make everybody sit up and take notice, just like the Avs making David Jones and Jamie McGinn healthy scratches last night.

It could be he was not feeling right before the game

It could be an undisclosed injury--possibly getting struck by a puck during warmups.

Do any other teams have any surprising healthy scratches?

@HackswithHaggs: Not shocked that Rich Peverley has been scratched tonight vs Sens. Claude Julien needed to send some kind of message of urgency #BruinsTalk

Yes. Scratching one of your centers who is healthy, when one is put back in who is still obviously hurt makes more sense than a probable trade of someone likely to be traded.

What are Bruins fans expecting in return if he is traded?

Peverley looked great at the start of the season but he had the twin boat anchors of Bourque and Kelly wrecking his confidence.

Julien wanted to play Spooner, but couldn't scratch his BFF Pandolfo. So he picked Peverley, who has under-performed offensively.

A fast winger, #2 defenseman, and 3rd line center... from San Jose.

I'm sure Clode would rather play a one legged Krejci, Pandolfo, and Spooner over Pevs

He would rather play Pandolfo over Gretzky, Messier and Kurri.

Are you sure it's not 8-team list he can't be traded to?

Here's blurb from CapGeek:
Known Clauses: NTC (2012-13, player can submit eight-team trade list by Oct. 1, 2012; 2013-14, player can submit 15-team trade list by Oct. 1, 2013; 2014-15, none)

So it jumps to 15 in year 2? Which means Bruins get much more leverage to deal him to half the league, but in year 1 only 1/4 of teams?

To Chi: Peverley

To Bos: Bolland

Salary caps are a wash (although Peverley has 2 years remaining and Bolland has 1 year). Statistics are similar.

Bolland gives Boston very good checking center.

Peverley gives Chicago the good faceoff center they need.

8 team trade list sounds like teams he can be traded to, to me.

Could just be they're sending the team a message and sitting someone who hasn't produced recently.

We get all worked up for a trade and it ends up being nothing. Fishy though that Pandolfo is in and Peverley's not. That's what I find weird.

Julien has scratched players like Kessel, Ryder, and Seguin when he thought a message needed to be sent, I think it is a possibility that is exactly what happened here but I also wouldn't be surprised if he was traded in a package for a better scoring winger.

I think Peverley was still playing well, I'm pretty sure he'd rather have Kelly and Bourque who slightly underperformed then Pandolfo and Caron who I'm not even sure if they have performed.

They're in Ottawa right now... maybe they leave Peverley behind?

Save money on a flight and shipping his equipment?
