Whitney is 40 and he has another year left on his contract at $4.5, would that scare teams away? Since we're not a cap team and we need offense, that shouldn't scare Jarmo away right? Would the extra year bring his value down? According to Capgeek via TSN, he has a modified NTC. I think he he has to provide a 10 team list that he is willing to go to. Would Columbus make the list? I think he liked his time in Columbus but does he want another Cup or is he fine with his one he already has?

Any interest in Jagr? He's 41 but would be a straight up rental player. Can't say for sure as I don't follow the Stars but it seems like he is running out of gas like last season(don't see him on the score sheet as much but then again, don't look to often so I could be wrong).

Who would cost more Jagr or Whitney and who would you rather have? Heck, would you go after both if the price was right? Do we have room for both(I know we can make room for them but do we want to move specific players down to the 3rd/4th line)?

From the Jets, any interest in Bryan Little? He's 25 and would be a RFA after this season. He would probably ask for around $3 million/season(that's what his salary was for this year). Only 4 goals this year but did score 24 last year.

Not too impressed with Burmistrov either, and he was a player I followed since his draft year. He has great hands, but he seems to need time to use them in order to score because his shot isn't good enough.

-I don't think we're rebuilding. We're just upgrading and getting new appliances.

-I wouldn't mind Okposo here myself. I think a change of scenery would do him great. Same thing for Niederreiter. I say bring him back to play with his boy Johansen. I know he was HORRIBLE last year on the island, but I think the suckatude/mismanagement of that team had a lot to do with that.

Interesting tweet, but makes sense since he's just getting his feet wet.

@CraigCustance: Jarmo Kekalainen says Blue Jackets successful run won't change how he approaches the deadline. Sticking with long-term view of building CBJ.

Ok, kind of stating what we already knew, right? So, with the long-term view in mind, I'm asking the board to make predictions. What kind of deal(s) can we expect of JK at the deadline with the future in mind?

- Young players under contract with more than a year left on their deal? If that's the case, what incentive does the trading team have to trade them? I don't necessarily see something like that.
- Trading existing roster pieces for draft picks? I could see this. If he has a few names circled that he doesn't believe fits with the future of the team then I could see him moving someone for draft picks. If this happens, I think it sends a bad message to the current team in the middle of a playoff push.
- Perhaps he finds a player that he likes that's under contract for a few years and works to acquire him...?
- What else? Thoughts?
You answer your own questions with the bolded. 1) We don't know. 2) Everything I've said in this thread so far still goes.

I know there probably won't be many of you who agree with me, but I would have no problem with us trading him. I just don't think he is worth what he is being paid.

Another thing to think about, since a lot of people keep saying money doesn't matter since we aren't a cap team, is the thought of saving actual dollars to spend in a year or two. I believe the Reds did this for a few years so they could afford to keep guys like Bruce and Votto. If we save some money over the next 2 years, even though we can afford to pay those players because we are under the cap, we may have more money to spend on a player or two that we really need to take us to the next level. That is the main reason I want us to trade guys like Umberger. Not because of the cap, but because of the actual dollars being spent that we would save.

The team is less than 2 million from the salary floor. The team has to pay somebody.

What you're proposing isn't feasible or workable.

I don't really know the rules when it comes to the NHL salaries that well, so if that is the case, fine. I still would rather we spend our money on someone other than Umberger.

I'd like Burmistrov as well, so much talent being wasted give the guy a chance. Hell, he's not even playing in WPG.

Hello Jackets fans, Duck fan coming in peace.

I was just wondering what is the asking price for Brassard? The Ducks could really use a sold 2nd line center who can play defence and Brassard's contract is very nice. What's the deal with him? Is he part of the core or someone who could be traded?

Thanks in advance!

He's been one of our top producers (yes people go look at the stats) and I really only see trading him for a scoring winger. Dont really see the Ducks as good trading partners unless we can pry Mr. Ryan from you guys . Of course that'd probably take Brassard a 1st and one of our young dmen to make that happen.

I think that Brassard is definitely available. I don't know if there are many untouchables at this time. I think that Brassard could be had for a first round pick or a second and a minor prospect. I may be overvaluing, but I think that Jarmo will maximize the return as much as possible.

Would love to see Brass net a first, but a 2nd+ seems more like it imo

I think it's more likely they look for a pick in return for Brassard to get rid of his contract. I think that GMJK can use his defensive surplus to get a scoring winger. I will be interesting to see what happens. JK might just stand pat if the point streak continues and the Jackets remain in the playoff hunt.

I don't think the Ducks have any scoring wingers to spare but I would be up for trading the 1st round pick for Brassard. I think it's fair, considering that Cogliano was traded for 2nd round pick.

I'd take a 1st for Brassard.

I was in the same boat a couple years ago, when a self-exiled poster here started telling me to watch "the game within". That's when I started really coming around on hockey IQ, which the elite players possess.

In my admittedly inexperienced opinion on the matter, Burmistrov has the same level of hockey IQ as the best in the league. He's an exceptionally smart defensive player (think of Malhotra level), but his offensive IQ is just as good. The offense hasn't come around yet because he's somewhat physically raw and because of the way that he's been used. His defensive skills and physical game mean that he's been stuck on the third and fourth line, but it's stunted his offensive growth.

To me, he's the type of guy you can put on the first or second line and build around, rather than wedging him into a role on the bottom 6.

The Ducks first rounder this year isn't going to be that high of a pick.

We're actually in the playoff hunt, and you want to trade one of our leading scorers? Offseason, yes, right now? Hell no. I see very minimal happening at the deadline with the NHL roster. Maybe JK will pull some magic outta his ass and trade some picks for young nhl ready talent. But I don't think much else could happen. However, if we miss the playoffs and the Jackets come back to reality, look for a busy offseason.

Would anyone do a deal around...
Brassard + ?
for
Grabner + ?
or even a 1 for 1 trade? I have no idea if Grabner is available though. He has 10 goals and 3 assists in 26 games. After this season he has 3 more years left with a caphit of $3million. He's currently 25 years old.
