It seems like we have a decent amount of leadership potential for the future, just not much right now.
These guys have all been captains at some point (in junior, internationally, etc.):
McNabb
McCabe
Pysyk
Girgensons
Hodgson
Foligno

Pretty much the same stats as Pominville over the last 10 games or so.

I mean, do you really do that to a teammate who is quite a bit older than you when you're supposed to be one of the leaders setting an example? Just something that didn't rub me the right way. That's not even including on-ice performance as to why I don't like Stafford with a letter.

I think Ott should definitely have an "A" at this point. Captain material though, I don't think so. Ott's great at what he does and that's the player he is but most captains don't play with that kind of edge. I think he'd be a great alternate like he was in Dallas and he definitely has the leadership and bleeds blue and gold every night. Just not captain material. He's probably my favorite player on the team and I still agree the "C" probably isn't for him.

Honestly, I don't feel the Sabres really have any true captain candidates if they feel they want to make a change from Pominville (which won't happen unless he's gone). If that did happen though, I'd be all for giving it to Regehr if he stays similar to what the Devils did with Salvador. I don't think Pominville's a bad captain but I think Regehr is the most-qualified guy for the job that we have right now.

Still makes me mad that Stafford has an "A" over Ott or Regehr. I'd have to think if Stafford is traded soon, which could very well happen, Ott gets the letter.
Hey now, if we take away Stafford's A he may not yell at people for stepping on the logo anymore.

Describe this "personality" so that I can find you examples.

[QUOTE=Have My Baby Pierre;62060391]It's not really the letter that is important, but it is important to have players that are leaders and are worthy of being a captain.

Check out all the cup winners and most have had great captains.

Lidstrom, Sakic, and Scott Niedermayer (was he captain when the ducks won in 07?) say hi

A bit OT, but I've never understood the obsession with that or with growing playoff beards...Cause with recent teams (the last 4-5 years) we haven't had any success, and heck, the franchise hasn't won a cup Why not say "Forget about superstition/tradition"? It's not like it can make us too much worse

If you're pulling those out, you could also mention Gretzky as he wasn't exactly the fire and brimstone leader like Messier. You could also toss Dennis Potvin, Dave Andreychuk, Yvon Cournoyer as less than galvanizing personalities.

Easy solution: trade him. Then everyone's happy.

Blowing a guy a kiss, getting a penalty, and the other team scoring a PPG is why not

Still love the guy, but he's an outlaw. Can't have your captain be an outlaw.

Imo its not the fact that he chirps, it's the fact that he's one of those guys who researches info of opposing players to make his chirps sting more. Can't remember where I read this but it was recent. Kes and Burrows used to do the same **** in vancouver. Kind of classless when done improperly.

I don't think Ott should be Captain....

But it's clear as day...he is the new leader of this team

Lock him up.

Yeah it would be strange to see him with the C but it's kind of obvious he's a huge leader on our team.

If we can't re-sign him I will be so pissed off. STAY OTTER!!

Captain Kinky

“He’s been playing great for us,” said winger Patrick Kaleta, the Sabres’ other agitator. “As we like to call him, ‘Daddy’ came through. He did a great job all night. I’m happy he’s on my side.”Wait, the Sabres call Ott what?“You’re going to have to ask him that,” Kaleta said. “I think he likes to call himself ‘Daddy’ a little bit, too.
