Right now, Colin Wilson's value is right there next to Gaborik's value. Change the 1st to a 2nd or 3rd and that's around fair value, but Nashville would have no reason to even make that trade with the fair value.

Fine. Deal. BTW, I added Pyatt to the deal just before you posted

I'm not a fan of either team so idk how Preds feel about that. I doubt they do it. They need to add offense from their depth of defense, not by swapping a young center for an aging, albeit still good, winger.

I'd love a player like Ryan Ellis on the Rangers, but I want Colin Wilson. I think the guy will be a star in this league (though admittedly, I've only seen him in a handful of games, but he's really impressed me in every one).

I still think that the difference between Gabby and Wilson is way less than a first.

You're probably right. I figured he's valued pretty high in Nashville. I just think if we were trading Gaborik a 1st would have to be coming back. I like Wilson personally, what do you think would be added from our side to keep that first in there?

Honestly, more than you're willing to give up. Homegrown studs are valued very highly by their own team, so it'd probably have to be Gaborik + Kreider for Wilson + 1st

And that clearly isn't worth it for New York. But in order to get Wilson AND the first, which might be top 10 this year, you'd have to massively overpay.

NYR can definitely get a 1st + for Gaborik, but the plus isn't going to be a NHL roster player with great potential.

Why is it always the same 2-3 people posting bad proposals? This is going to get ugly.

It all depends on what sort of bidding war happens and how much the rangers are willing to eat on the contract next year.

If the Rangers arent eating any of the contract they will not get much other than expensive role players.

On the trade with Nashville----why would nashville give up a young quality player for players much older.

Win now and you get a real offensive threat. And I seem to recall a Rangers/Predators proposal that involved Gaborik and Kostitsyn and Ryan Ellis about a week ago.

This makes absolutely no sense for the Preds. They shouldn't, and wouldn't, do Wilson for Gaborik straight up, let alone add a good prospect in Aberg and their first, which could be top-10.

Wilson has 19 points in 25 games. Gaborik has 18 points in 30 games. Both teams play defensive systems. Wilson is 23 years old and cheap. Gaborik is 31 and expensive, plus a UFA in a year. Nashville is not trying to contend, they aren't going to give their youth away for essentially a year-long rental.

Gaborik has been absolutely brutal this year. Spare me the linemates and LW thing, if you're elite moving to your off-wing isn't going to make you suck as badly as Gaborik has. Trotz would never give Gaborik a minute of ice time. And the rest of what Nashville is getting is just pure ****ing garbage.

Stop trying to trade Gaborik to Nashville for their young players. You aren't thinking about their needs at all. If Gaborik can't score in NYR's system, what makes you think he'd be an elite scorer in Trotz's?

Pass on this. Wilson is pretty much untouchable for us. Our top forward, he is our present and future. I'm not worried about winning this season anyways.

Let's leave Gaborik out for a minute.
With Weber, Klein, Ellis, Blum all right handed Dmen on the rotation, one of them should be available.
I am going to guess that Weber, Klein are not.
What would be the asking price on Ellis/Blum?
And while we are on Defense, what's value of Mattias Ekholm? Trotz doesn't seem to like him a whole lot
"horrible, absolutely horrible" is the way he reportedly described him last season.
He seemed to have improved since then winning the best Dman in Sweden award last season.
He could be a bottom pairing D on the Rangers blue line when Hamerlik leaves next season.

What's available from the Rangers is picks, Pyatt, Asham and B prospects.
Is there a deal to be made?

If the Predators added Gaborik, it would be to play on Wilson's wing. Our biggest issue is that Wilson is the only elite offensive ability we have, and he's damaged by not having linemates that can play on his level.

Wilson and Josi are the two most untouchable Predators...add in our top forward prospect Pontus Aberg and what's likely to be a top ten pick in this draft for a year and a half of Gaborik? It's just not worth it.

There was a thread about this that went many pages, the end result was that the best Nashville could\would offer would be

Mike Fisher
Ryan Ellis
Matt Halischuk
2nd round pick

Ekholm was rushed into the NHL and it didnt work, but he's still considered one of our top prospects and should get a shot at making the team in the next season or two. He's had a good first year in north america, this time in Milwaukee where he belongs.

I could see Blum being available in a hockey trade, but since his value isn't as high as it once was, the concensus is that the Predators would be best served to use him as sweetener in a bigger deal.

Yeah, there were many options discussed.
I think there was agreement that Fisher is not moving because of his wife and he has a NTC.
The other permutations discussed were
Bourque + Ellis + first.
Hornquist + Ellis + first.
edit: top ten protected first, if memory serves.

Fair enough. But you have an abundance of Dmen, a couple of them must be available

Rangers fans desperately want a 1st round pick this year after the Nash trade.

At least the Flyers are sucking with a 1st round pick in their pocket

We would be lucky to get Wilson alone with that package. Maybe Wilson + 2nd. But even then the Preds have no reason to do this. I would kill to have wilson on the Rangers he is exactly what we need. Him and Stepan would be two lethal young C's for years but again, Preds would NEVER do this not even Gaborik straight for Wilso.
