Old clips of Datsyuk.. anouncers not sure of his talent yet.

http://redwings.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=87794

Does anyone else have old clips like some of these? I mean it is funny because some of the moves are before he is "Datsyuk" and the announcers are a bit more surprised? lol

"We were just talking about Pavel Datsyuk, guys they pick up the late rounds that are good and effective puck handlers."

Yeah. I'd say he's good and effective with the puck. Hahaha.

I asked Siri "where was the magic man born" just to see it for myself..

Lol the way Siri pronounces Datsyuk is hilarious: "dat-psy-yuk."

Btw, the magic man is Kent Nilsson's nickname.

That's how I pronounced his name when I first started reading about him before I ever heard it said. Haha

No that's John C. Reilly's nickname on Talledega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
"Magic Man, Now you see me...Now you don't"

On a serious note any player who shows that level of skill the first few times is going to surprise the hell out of everybody, especially the announcers.

Hate the Wings!

But Pavel Datsyuk????

My lord, it's worth the price of admission just to watch him practice. I grew up more on the Avs side of the rivalry but your boy is really messing it up for me in recent years

As a fan of an opposing team, you don't want to see it,.. you try to deny it, but he is simply the perfect nhl player. Trust me I really really don't want to say it but kudos to your scouting and coaching staff. The man is an absolute beast with zero weaknesses... skating, shooting, passing, stickhandling (duh!) , offense, defense, faceoffs, blocking shots, I mean sheesh! How unfair! lol

In all seriousness, I hope he doesn't leave as reports are claiming. The man is an absolute joy to watch, congratulations.. I'll be watching, cheering and silently hating on you guys!

for the life of me I don't understand how the man doesn't lead the league in points AND the selke trophy. There's been no one since forsberg that had that ability. Don't get me wrong I like abdelkadr and helm alot. Gotta love kids who just play the game honest and hard. But datsyuk needs linemates with more offensive potential. They've worked hard to be good linemates but long as detroit doesn't get an above average to elite scoter on his wing, the way pittsburgh got james neal for malkin. Then so many of those amazing assists will keep getting shot into the goalie's belly

His dedication to defense and his prime years being around the time of Crosby/Ovechkin have a lot to do with him never winning the scoring title.

What amazes me about him is that he's a better player now than he was in most - if not all - of his 20's. I think if he really wanted to he could play at an elite level into his 40's. He didn't come into the league until he was 22/23 and has endured 2 lockouts.

Yeah, imagine watching like the older games and the first two three years of Datsyuk. When he did something cool no one would go ape nuts over it and just sort of brushed it off. But the few insane dekes were like OH OH pay attention! I wish you could watch some of those older games now.

Datsyuk's biggest disadvantage is his size. I firmly believe he would have been a Malkin-like talent at a younger age if they were the same height.

Concur. Datsyuk could definitely put up more goals and pts if he played less D and cherry pick as much as other stars. I have a ton of respect for players like he and Forsberg, who put the team ahead of stats.
He actually has very good shots.

The things that makes Pavel stand out from other highlight reels:
- originality. He pulls off stuff we've never seen
- he makes it look so effortless
- how silly he makes the goaltenders look. G's flop around guessing like soccer goalies on penalty shots.

I haven't seen anything solid for either possibility, it seems to me like it's all speculation.
GMKH said he hasn't discussed the subject with Pavel yet so if that's true the supposed source within management doesn't seem credible. Then again if Pavel did tell management he's not coming back I can't think of a reason why Kenny would come out and confirm it this early and show other teams that he'll be desperate for a "replacement" (so to speak).

If you guys want some good Pavel videos go check out "Brandon Barber" on YT. He's got a bunch of cool stuff that I'd never seen before.

Besides all the great moves, I think Pavs is the ultimate team player. Very unselfish guy, plays D as well as anyone in the league. He's just such a crafty guy. I've said before, I've been a fan for 50 years and there is nobody I've enjoyed watching more than Pavel.
