GAME #31 - Canucks @ Kings

Last game of the season between the Canucks and Kings.
Here's to the growing hatred for our soon-to-be division rival!

I'm putting a ton of pressure on myself by putting up something like this as a pre-game header. Now I have to do something even better for the GDT itself.

hehe like the pancakes there Zombo, made me lol

Anways, I'd say we roll with what we got, if Pinner is ok maybe slot him in for Gordon or keep him as the 13th guy. Higgins looks like he isn't making the trip so I don't expect any line changes. I hope we keep Ballard on the wing for now, I don't think replacing him with someone like Pinizzotto makes us any better. Keep the D as it is (although I expect Alberts will be in for Barker because of LA's size). Assuming Schneider gets the start, after two brilliant games.

edit- Don't like the early game, may have to miss it

I work from 10-6, so this is why I hate any early Saturday game.

There was a time not long ago when games between these two teams were lackluster. The last time we missed the playoffs (2007-08), the Kings finished 29th in the NHL and drafted subsequently drafted Drew Doughty. That year, we lost three of our four meetings against the bottom-dwelling LA squad.

The only time we won that year may have been the most memorable. It was on March 10, 2008, just over five years ago. It was a goaltending duel between Roberto Luongo and Dan Cloutier, as the latter had returned briefly after battling injuries and a feud with Kings management. For much of the game Cloutier was stopping everything while Luongo was hardly being tested. In the third period, however, the Kings broke the tie, instilling fear into the hearts of many Canucks fans. For those who had bashed Cloutier so much, many were fearful that the Canucks might lose to him in the only meeting ever between Cloutier and Vancouver.

Of course, we scored a late one and won it in OT, just barely squeaking out a win against a team that had our number all year. Cloutier stopped 39 of 40; Roberto, 17 of 18:

One of the more interesting regular season games in recent times between the Kings and Canucks, only because of the goaltenders and the potential shutout Cloutier might have had if not for a late Vancouver goal.

Well lets hope the Canucks are happy I am guessing Kassian will be out. I think Higgins and Pinni will be back.

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows
Raymond-Schroeder-Hansen
Higgins-Ebbett-Weise
Sestito-Lapierre-Pinnizzotto/Gordon

if not

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows
Raymond-Schroeder-Hansen
Ballard-Ebbett-Weise
Sestito-Lapierre-Gordon

Can't wait till Jensen is ready to come up.

In my first season as a fan, Vancouver was a middling team, Los Angeles was pitied for its consistent ineptitude and Chicago was a joke.

Look how far we've come in five years. I hate the Kings and how they rose so meteorically, but kudos to them for transcending a long-standing culture of losing.

In 2007-08, the Kings went through, in net, Jason Labarbera, Erik Ersberg, Jean-Sebastien Aubin, Dan Cloutier, Jonathan Quick, Jonathan Bernier, and Danny Taylor (of the Abbotsford Heat). The year before that, they went through Mathieu Garon, Sean Burke, Barry Brust (also of the Abbotsford Heat), Cloutier, and Yutaka Fukufuji.

What a mess it was. Marc Crawford must not have been amused:

And who's that to his left. Sad days in LA.

If the Canucks can actually maintain being a good-great team beyond the Sedins

I don't see anyway the Canucks can win unless they get some type of heroic effort from the Sedins, can't have a game like they did vs PHX and expect the rest of the putrid lineup to pot 2 again.

I'm already tired of the California teams for whatever reason. Games against the Ducks are fun but LA and the Sharks.. I feel like we've played them a lot more often because of the playoff series and having them in the division is just over kill. I know I'm in the minority though.

Seriously the NHL is a joke... the whole reason this is happening is because Smith didn't play the 3rd period. I wonder how much his earlier run in with Danny (where he was obviously favouring his shoulder) had to do with that?

Sure Edler hit Smith but it wasn't a Kronwall, if he would have angled his shoulders towards the boards he would have grazed the guy.

I am guessing we will need/av will want ballard playing forward again (although I hope he plays d), which means barker/alberts pairing

The first time I heard av compliment ballard was last night.
