Tanabe a UFA

Bruins turned down his 1.275M arb award.

I think that's pretty cheap. Tubby, would he provide the defensive depth you think we need? I'm not sure he's the right guy, but as a #7 or 8? . . .

I'd take him; he could be a Corvo, with a little more defensive awareness...

If, your going to bring him in and hope he's a # 7 or 8 don't you think that 1.275 is a little to much to spend?

I'm happy with our defense. If, we add anything it should be a solid top 6 forward. I think DL is still looking.

too much to be a #7 or 8. I wouldn't even think he is a good fit on this team. He is a disaster on defense. There is a reason the Bruins walked away from a so-called "cheap" award

A team like Columbus or Washington or Pittsburgh would be more fitting. Not the Kings. No room for him and they have other options as the #7 D.

Blake
Norstrom
Visnovsky
Gleason
Miller
Sopel
Dallman
Weaver
Tanabe

He'd be awfully far down on the depth chart.

His season in Boston ended early due to a torn ACL...

With Blake, Visnovsky and Sopel, we have enough offenseive defenseman. If we go out and get another d-man, he better be a solid stay at home d-man.

I agree with this. I liked Calgary's defensive depth when they made a run a few years ago. A guy like Steve Montador would be a good lower end defenceman.

Honestly, in terms of effectivity, I'd put him somewhere under Gleason... I can't rely on Miller or Sopel staying healthy and the next two guys are certainly depth players. Tanabe has been somewhat of a bust, but he's also someone who came into the NHL with a world of promise, and he's shown glimpses of the talent he was billed as having.

It's a longshot that the Kings would get him, but I'd see it as a reasonably priced addition in a heartbeat.

I've been saying that for a few years now. Berg as our #6/#7 or Sopel/Weaver?

I don't know what Aki Berg you guys were watching, but this guy was softer than the Pillsbury Doughboy. He constantly looked like he was scared out there. How fondly do you guys remember Modry, because Aki Berg is along those lines, a huge defenseman who would RARELY use his body.

Anyone remember the time when Aki (as a King) came out from behind the net with nobody on him, whiffs BIG time on a pass and slipped and fell, only to have the idle puck picked up by an opposing player who would score on Storr, untouched. I forget who it was against, but it was one of the saddest (and most pathetic) Kings moments.

Oh and those Leafs fans sure miss Aki and I'm sure they shed many tears when he announced his retirement from the NHL.

wasn't Tanabe one of the guys that got completely throttled by Stevens in the playoffs a couple of moons back?

You might be thinking of Shane Willis. Tanabe was a teammate of his on the Hurricanes when Stevens pretty much single handedly destroyed the Hurricanes.

Tanabe was the player that Stevens hit with under a minute to go in an already decided playoff game.
