No kidding off the top of my head: Jajo, Pesonen, Halischuk for sure wore 16. Palmeiri and Vasyunov? Did Davison wear 16 too? Though he doesn't count at all as a prospect. I think Zubrus and Henrique both wore 16 too.

Edit: Looked it up - Davison and Vas wore 18. That was a brain freeze there. But the rest of the players listed all wore 16 for at least one game.

Crazy.

We've had a new number 16 almost every year for the last 5 or 6 it seems like. Zubrus, then when Holik came back Zubrus gave him number 16. I can't even remember who had it since Holik retired there's been so many. Tedenby may have even had it at one point. Did Josefson have it in 10-11?

Yes it was Josefson's number for the last 2 seasons iirc.

Wow, that's a lot of pages for D'ags! I have to imagine there was another deal in the works, what with Lou's surplus assets and all, and he and Armstrong couldn't come to an agreement.

St. Louis has a LOT of forward depth, easily tops in the league, and the kicker is they're all cheap. Perfect trade partners for the Devils if the Blues need a defenseman. It's also likely that someone on the Blues will be gone eventually to make room for Tarasenko. Kudos to Lou if he was inquiring about any parts they'd want to move.

I give Lou an A on the trade just for getting Barch out of the lineup.

Exactly this. If the playoffs start and we have guys like D'agostini or Poni on the fourth line, we're sitting pretty. Also great injury insurance if someone like Bernier or Carter needs to move a line with more injuries.

Someone replied to me earlier asking what lines I would use if D'agostini is not in the top 6...these two options seem logical to me...

Henrique-Loki-Kovy
Elias-Zajac-Clarkson
Poni-Zubrus-D'ags
CBGB

or

Zubrus-Loki-Kovy
Elias-Henrique-Clarkson
Poni-Zajac-D'ags
CBGB

If D'ags impresses switch him with Clarkson. Assuming our forwards play to their potential, this lineup actually has better depth than last year's, just not as much top end talent (Parise).

These are the trades I wonder why GMs don't make more of.

You give up a relatively meaningless fifth round pick, for if all else, a proven NHL player. The player also has 20g 20a upside as well, so you're basically giving up nothing for a potential return that's going to far outweigh anything you pick in the fifth round (likely). Combine that with the fact that the fifth round pick in 2014 isn't going to make any impact, if at all, until probably the 2017-2018 or 2018-2019 season, and the trade looks so awesome.

D'Agostini gives us a pure shooter. Like I've been saying, we have our grinders, our role players, our "identity players" as DeBoer likes to call them, what we lack is pure offense. Guys that can just change the game with one shot, one deke, one pass. Lou addresses this need with Loktionov and D'Agostini at virtually no cost.

To go even further, he added some youth and some offensive upside to our forward depth that is really lacking in the future and right now. He's also an RFA at years end, so we retain his rights as well.

He might talk about it with our HC but if Pete isn't happy with the acquisition, it wouldn't change Lou's mind and I'm almost 110% certain of that.

Lemaire asked that Langenbrunner be moved but Lou wasn't on the same page. Bottom line, Lou is DeBoer's boss and he adds/retracts who he wants, period.
That's absolutely incorrect...he 'tried' to move Langs, and Langs wouldn't waive his NTC. What was Lou supposed to do, send his captain to Albany?

No Lou doesn't answer to DeBoer, but it's common courtesy to ask about players he's had before (as others have said Lou did just that with Carter/Bernier), and Lou generally does not foist players on coaches they don't want. That's a pretty fast way to cut a coach's legs out from under him.

Well when you have twenty players on a team and more or less restrict anyone other than maybe the occasional goalie or Mogilny-type player from wearing a # above 30, that pretty much limits your number options. Especially with three numbers below 30 already retired lol.

I'm pretty sure Pete is requesting his needs and is very much a part of the discussions on new players.

I get the impression that DeBeor has more input than most past coaches.

DeBoer totally has the Robert Duvall thing going, too.

What's the timetable on Zubrus getting back in the lineup?

Lou also made a big thing about how he asked Lemaire/Dave Barr/etc on Zidlicky last year too. He doesn't often acquire players he isn't able to get first-hand references on.

when healthy this team can run 4 lines out there. we can probably piece together 4 pretty consistant lines. d agostini brings some much needed speed to our right wing position.

it also gives us enough to move the cbgb line back to a dominant 3/4th line. a good move i think especially if this guy can get his scoring touch back.. between loki and dagostini we can start making back some of parisis goals.

it also' lets us move what is our biggest bargaining chip....clarkson...not saying i want him traded but if we can land a stud forward or defensman clarkson will have to be part of the equation...
