God I hope so. Surprising though how little D'agostini got so little...

he's the big center we need
I'd do this if Nucks thu in a 3rd rounder, just to soften the blow of taking that contract

No kidding .. I thought he was a decent 3rd liner who could fill in on the 2nd line

Maybe they want to upgrade with MacArthur

I'm not going to lie. If Richards got bought out, if I was the Leafs GM I'd still offer him a 5 year, $5.5 per contract. He is just having a brutal year. I would be highly suprised if he didn't bounce back.

I'd give him 4.5M. If he wants 5.5M+...he'll get it from a team like Calgary.

Brad Richards has been very bad this year...I can't say I am unhappy that he's struggling.

Really? Why's that? I've always thought he was a a good player, and seemed like a class act.

Okay, I get what you're saying now but when you say PER that means how much you are offering for each season. So $6M per for 2 years is a $12M contract. Semantics, I know, but just to clear up where the confusion was.

I also think he will bounce back. But 5 years for a 32 year old? I'd only do 2 years.

Funny, because most of the Canuck fans on the trade board approved.

if nonis is the GM we think he should be, then by now he has an idea of what Bozak and macarthur want as far as salary and duration.

Its really simple

given that he knows what they want , can we afford them going forward.

do we lose them for nothing or trade them and get something back with the
chance if we trade them we miss the playoffs.

Pretty thin line to walk if you ask me.

Definitely trade CMac before the deadline for futures. He doesn't fit with the team after this season at the salary he'll command, he isn't very important to our success this season and Nonis having an extra asset to head into the draft will be far more important to this teams future.

Probably keep Bozak unless we trade for his replacement prior to the deadline. Then let him walk as a UFA if we wants more than 3 around million with any length of term (he's worth Chris Kelly type).

We're not selling relevant assets for picks while we're in a playoff position. Its just not going to happen, so dont get your hopes up. That includes Mac and Bozak.

This is true .. In hindsight we'll probably regret it and haters will bash Nonis when they walk in free agency but dealing them now (without clear cut upgrades or replacements) is foolish for the team mentality and it will likely hurt them in push for the playoffs

I don't know if I completely agree, unless you just meant specifically for picks.

I think whether or not we trade Bozak largely is based on whether or not contract negotiations have occurred and the type of money he's expecting.

I don't think Nonis expected to make playoffs this year, and I don't think the owners did either. In his initial interviews he was always talking about the future and not necessarily having low expectations for the season, but certainly not high ones.

I'm not sure whether we'd trade Mac, we kinda got rid of a chunk of our forward depth so it might be wise to hold onto him. I feel like it's less certain than you make it to be, though I do agree that the matter of trading these two resides on the unlikely end of the scale.

as a team just barely making the playoffs it at all, is it in the best interest of the team to be losing 2 assets like Boz and Mac for nothing

Dammed if you do dammed if you dont

He turned us down, Plus he's on a team that's only a few points back.

For me though, That ship has sailed. I'd rather allocate that money towards Kadri and keeping Bozak.

Well your not exactly going to get anything in return for these 2 of significant value... Trading them for picks (2nd - 3rd round) is initially no different then letting them walk for nothing it's just that on these boards we like to put the cart a head of the horse when it comes to prospects and picks constantly over valuing the draft and prospects as the be of all things to build a team when they're far from a guaranty to become anything.

It would be irresponsible to trade for picks at the moment given the team is in a playoff position any trade the Leafs do should be of the hockey trade variety to improve. If they let them go for nothing so beat it, you gain close to 5 million in cap space and 2 roster spots.

If we are trading CMac/Bozak, I would like to see a hockey trade in which we can get player that will help us now.

very intelligent post, and perfect example of how being an NHL GM is allot like being between a rock and a hard place. Nonis has an obligation to continue improving the Leaf long term, no matter what, keeping the focus on the future only. Any short term success is a added bonus, but cannot be the primary objective.

Problem is that if we trade Cmac/Bozak for 2nd picks and finish 9th, it would not help us long term or short term

If we make playoffs, the core players get to see what the NHL PO's are all about and gain valuable experience.

Still don't know why people can't grasp that.

I could see Mac for a pick, then we trade a pick for a player, but we are kinda gonna need Bozak for the playoffs...
