Saddam Hussein was happily running Iraq the last time they won a playoff series. It's no wonder they've gone a little crazy this year.

It is consistent with the Neal-Couturier decision. A player can claim that they jumped to avoid contact, and it appears to get them off the hook for any contact with the head.

EDIT: Granted, since he didn't have a hearing, I'm not sure how he could have offered that noted exception to the rule. I supposed Shanahan just realized he would, and decided not to waste anyone's time.

EDIT AGAIN: The Toronto-based media reaction is hilarious. They are convinced that this is basically directly on the orders of the NHL to make sure that the Rangers make the playoffs.

I don't think Shanny's liking all this overtime work.

I'm a little surprised Nash didn't even get a call. I thought it would be a game so I'm not really shocked it got nothing. I just figured he would at least get a call.

I think Edler's probably going to get a few games next.

I thought the Nash thing was going to be 50/50 so I'm not surprised. I personally would've given it a game and tell Nash he's accountable for his actions, but whatever.

The story is less that he didn't have a hearing, isn't it?

In other words, the league essentially decided based on the video that it was not going to even consider supplemental discipline.

That's difficult to explain.

Oh, I apparently missed that part. No damned hearing? That's downright stupid.

Shanny usually drops the ball when has to deal with multiple potential suspensions.

I'd like Shanahan to make videos on why certain hits aren't suspendable.

Keep digging that hole Shanny!

(As mentioned above) The Man, simply cannot do his job on days that involve multiple incidents and if I'm not mistaken Fridays have been an issue in the past as well.

Another questionable (non) decision involving one of his former teams. Conscious or not, sooner or later this is going to get some traction.

He gave a brief interview. Basically said that (in their reading of the video) the hit was the result of two players spinning into each other.

Lindros suggested having three guys make the decision. One former referee, one former player, and one former coach I believe.

Ah, yes

The patented James Neal excuse must have been used by Nash

Shanny's taking a beating on twitter by the media right now.

I don't really buy the bias because Shanny used to play for the Rangers. I think it's more of Nash being a star player and Shanny being over his head with incidents in the last two days.

A journalist for the Leafs is going NUTS on Twitter. He's been on a tweeting rampage for the past hour. @DamoSpin

That was last tiny little bit of Brendan Shanahan's credibility floating away. Tragic what has happened to a once promising hockey thinker.

Shanahan's ineffective work now directly influencing NHL competitive balance. He needs to be replaced, system must be revamped. Again.
Quote:
Seriously, Edler on the carpet while Nash skates away? System could not be more messed up. Worse now than ever.
Quote:
Based on this Edler should get a congratulatory memo, and certainly no suspension or fine.

Somebody owes Joffrey Lupul an explanation. And his money back.

Say what you will about Colin Campbell's reign as NHL hanging judge. But he wasn't derided as a total joke by his second season.

NHL dept of safety now less credible than Hall of Fame selection committee. And that's saying something.

NHL so embarrassed doing the "no comment" thing, no explanation on Nash.
While I agree that Nash should've been suspended, this is a bit of an overreaction.

He is going overboard, but not without good reason. Nash should at the very least and to explain himself in a hearing, and so should have Carter for his blatant knee on Rinaldo.

And good on Lupul for speaking up. He deserved two games, but I think Nash deserved at least one.

That first tweet is just bad. Shanahan already lost the rest of his credibility when he accepted Neal's defense of jumping to avoid a hit on Couturier and not suspending Weber for slamming Zetterburg's head into the boards.

Edit: Washington is beating up on the Jets again. Same as last night.
