Crosby has never looked more dangerous than when he played with Hossa. That was during the playoffs when he faced tight checking and shadow coverage every game.
Saying Crosby doesn't work well with creative players is about as wrong as you can get. People are just too used to him playing with pluggers to remember what he and Hossa looked like together.
I remember it quite well as I have watched nearly every Penguins game every year dating back to 1990. He has averaged more PPG with Kunitz and Dupuis than he ever did with Hossa (including the 12 regular season games prior to the playoffs). Maybe Crosby has progressed as a player, but to say that was when he looked "his best" is a definite stretch.
Production/Cups are all I care about.
Higher PPG without Hossa. Cup without Hossa. Just as dangerous without Hossa.
Did that have anything at all to do with his linemates? Because the bit that I got to see of him during that period was basically the hockey equivalent of Schwartzenegger in Commando. As long as he had two living linemates to provide a minor distraction to the opponents, it was an entirely one man show.
I feel like it would be a very quick series, especially if Iginla was on the Pens, though if Kipper was on Toronto...
They'd lose even more quickly? Kipper has been the worst starter in the league this year. The guy has a .869 save percentage. That's just brutal. Reimer's save percentage is .916. That means the Leafs would let in over 1 goal per game more with Kipper than without.
Kipper has had one good year in the past 3 and 2 good years in the past 6. I am really not a fan at this point. He has been well below replacement level this year.
