I wasn't very happy with Brown's game (mostly having the puck movement on the PP completely die when the puck hit his stick), but Sutter himself said Kopi's line wasn't good at all and hasn't been for the last two or three games.

What was the total puck possession time for the Kings last night?

Kings News Daily ‏@KingsNewsDaily 9m Practice line: Penner-Carter-Toffoli. All other lines remain the same. #LAKings

He also said Mike Richards is the only player not at practice today.
Hope he's just sick...not hurt

Sounds to me like a "maintenance" day for Richards and Toffoli just filled in.

Most likely a maintenance day for Mike.

Mike plays a rough style, he is going to get banged up.

Wouldn't surprise me if he was scratched a game to recharge him.

This schedule is BRUTAL.

The Mayor had an interview with Ray Whitney post game and this was a question posed and a good reply from a wise leader...
Quote:
On how much time he has available to mentor younger players given the crazy schedule: “Well you don’t get a lot of time to do anything. You ice down, you hydrate, you get ready for the next day. There’s not really a chance to get to go out and get to know your teammates as well as you’d like to. You know, the young guys, there’s certain aspects of the game you can always try to tell them, help them out. But you don’t want to overload them with stuff, because I’m sure they’re getting it non-stop from the coaching staff. So, you just try to be helpful when you can, with little things that they may do. In my day, if you were to walk around with your headset on and ride the bike with a cell phone in your hand – stuff like that pisses me off. It’s the one thing I can relate to the young guys. I say, ‘Listen, when you’re at the rink it’s work time. You can put your stuff away, and you can worry about your girlfriend’s text messaging and stuff later. It’s time to get down to business. So there’s differences in the game now with how people are, how people act, and how they think they should be treated. I’m still a little bit old school, where you get treated how you work and how you perform
.”

That's the kind of leadership that goes a long way. And that 78 points he put up last year was more than most of those kids. THey could learn a thing or two...from him and Jagr.

It's ****ing ridiculous. To me, it's further proof the NHL really doesn't care about the players. I feel stacking games like this is totally unnecessary. So what if the playoffs run into July?

Still room to grow.
I am not upset by this loss. If we outplay teams like that everygame we will win 9/10 times.
I didn't have time to do the math earlier but I just did it now to give a further example of what I was saying. We're giving up 24.9 shots a game so round that to 25. If Quick were to have 3 straight shutouts with our average of 25 shots. He would only be at .910 save percentage. It's better than where he is now but only a .013 increase. And would put him at 27 in the league.
With the low number of shots we give up and the shortened season his overall numbers are not going to fully recover. We just have to look at each game and go from there.

You have a couple of problems running into July- first, you don't get a full summer to rest as a player. Then you have minor details like the draft. Kinda hard to have the playoffs extend beyond the draft.

They've already extended the time frame to accommodate this season. The name of the game is to maximize revenue- I'm sure the 48 game schedule and subsequent dates for playoffs were considered. There are limits to what can be done. Sigh...

The playoffs might run to the end of June. And then there is the Olympics. Olympic Training Camp is in August. So any NHL'er (and the Kings will have some) that will be attending get a whole 4 to 5 weeks off.

THat can't bode well going into Oct with 82 NHL games, the Olympic games, then playoffs beyond.

That'as a lot of hockey and wear on a body over this year and thru mid June with little time off.

I know in 2010, Mike Richards played the whole year, plus 23 playoff games and the Olympics, it was like 114 games in a 9 mos span. And it caught up to him in the finals, esp since he plays such a hard driving game and is physical , and not a big guy. He admitted that summer how much it hurt him that he'd run out of gas and let the team down, blaming himself for not succeeding in the Cup finals.

Anyway, I'm curious to see how the long year added to next with Olympics will tell on players next spring for the playoffs.

Next game against Chicago or Colorado, we should sit Richards, Scuderi and some other banged up guy. Throw all our subs in.

I hope Richards is alright he looked a bit shy from contact yesterdays game. Maybe a shoulder bruise or something. Anyways we should scratch him a game or two to get him back to 100%

Edit: Lol not lady, damn S3.

I'm a big fan of the contact lady game.

He's been putting 4.3 sog's a game for the last 11 games and has 17 points in that time frame. I pretty much disagree with everything you said with the exception of driving to the net. But frankly, if it isn't broken why change it?

he's had about 5 games that were above average. The last two included although statistically nobody would call a 900 save percentage and a loss average. Up until two games he's been very poor the entire season, not just the start of the season. He was actually 13% worse from game 17 on. I'm glad he's turning things around and I believe he's starting to get some confidence back.

Actually Quick sees 22 shots a game. The defense is actually stronger in front of Quick statisticaly speaking.

I understand constantly checking your cell phone while in a meeting or during a practice on the ice, but why the hell would he care if someone looks at their phone while on an excercise bike? Unless you're REALLY pushing it, I just don't see a problem with that particular scenario.

Maybe I'm just in the crap generation that doesn't do things the right way.

How can you give all of your effort into being a better player, into being in better shape when you keep checking out your phone? That's the point he's trying to make.

Ratings, Most people don't want to watch hockey when it's 110 out and clear skies, people want to be outside at the beach or other places relaxing in the summer, not sitting inside watching hockey and everyone knew 48 games was going to be compressed just like the NBA's schedule last year.

Edler's been suspended for 2 games for the hit on Smith. Another body not able to suit up forthe Diving team tomorrow.
I'd like to see the Kings really take it to the Casucks...dominate themn

Oh and go BlueJacket, 5-1 win and another 2 points. I'm pulling for them to make the 8th spot, riding their stud goalie. They play Vancouver on Tuesday...

Any of us who live in a 4 seasons climate won't be making hockey a priority in June or July unless our team is playing.
