Nice start to the playoffs for Frk to say the least.

Hoping Paterson can steal a game or really even holding his team within touch of London would be quite the accomplishment, he is up against it in this series. Not getting torched is going to be hard to do.

Just watched a highlight reel of him on Youtube. Granted, it's a highlight reel, but he did some things there that I've really only seen a few players be able to do. The way he brushes off checks is exactly the way Datsyuk does it. They kinda of come at him and he just rolls around it. When the players try to grab him as he's blowing by, he just pushes the puck forward and reaches like Datsyuk does so often to get around guys. Never stops moving his feet.

If he can continue to do that in the NHL? His speed and hands are sexy. I wanna see this kid in action.

Could have done better.....

Wow, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw those numbers! Another solid prospect for the Wings. Had to stop by and give some praise for that kind of performance.

I've gushed a lot over Frk this year, but man oh man that was something else watching him tear through an entire team, almost singlehandedly.

A fellow Moose fan said it best, "Ken Holland must be laughing right now" ... I enjoy watching this season by Marty because of the trainwreck that was 11-12 ... of course this looks like a good thing for Detroit now lol. Under-rated player IMO in the grand scheme of things in the Q.

A few dekes, a few laser shots ... The Moose normally have their highlight packs out after the game, but when I see it I will post it.

I agree, was at the game tonight and after he missed a moderately open net you could tell he was going to score. I dunno if it's good or bad but man it feels like he lives to score goals, probably good for our organization because his shot is a laser. What I mean is that throughout the year he's been visibly agitated when he hasn't scored leading to penalties. Discipline was a much bigger issue than it is now, rarely see the bad penalties he had earlier in the year. Overall I have to say his play has been massively improved. I hated the pick through his first ~10 home games, as the guy was prone for terrible penalties. As of now he's phenomenal, fits right in on the top line and couldn't be happier with his play, especially after the world juniors. Play making is underrated because of his his shot(massive) but wings fans have a lot to be excited about him. His shot is huge I mean, massive, laser, etc and I can't wait to see it compared to Sproul's because its hard to believe something can be harder haha. I've had the pleasure to watch the mooseheads a lot this year so if you have any more specific questions about his season let me know. Overall, really happy with the way his season has gone. Will go on as the moose win the mem cup

Thanks, much appreciated.

Really excited to see him in GR next season. The Griffs are going to completely stacked next season.

Agree, but maybe that's not a good thing lol ... I have noticed that if he doesn't score on a great chance, or has gone a couple periods without scoring on multiple shots he looks frustrated. He does live to score and make a difference though, and hell, at least he's motivated lol ... Never had any issues with work ethic, that's always been there and he pushes himself a lot.

Agreed. Since early November he's been the Marty we thought we were getting in 2010 ... I'd love to see him on his own line, but then again I wouldn't lol ... He fits perfectly with Nate and Jo, although he could probably carry his own line ... Since the time I noticed him "kick-it-into-gear" he has 38 goals and 82 points in 44 games ... Drouin like numbers.

Once you see his upper body you know why his shot is so hard lol.

Np.

Still far away, but where do you see him fitting in next year? Will he get a top 6 spot? ... We have two high euro picks and I think he's ready for pro hockey so I can't see him playing in the Q again.

It's tough to say, it really depends on what happens with the Wings roster in the offseason. Whether or not they do as we all hope and clear some space for the NHL ready guys (Nyquist, Tatar, Andersson, and possibly Jarnkrok)
Here's a lineup that another poster suggested that I really like.

He's gotta compete with these guys:

Sheahan (lock)
Jurco (lock if he keeps up his recent play)
Janrkrok (lock - he may go straight to Detroit but doubtful)
Ferraro (could possibly center the 3rd line so not a lock)
Pulkkinen (similar to Frk, big shot, decent skater, better defensively - big question mark)
Pare (if he resigns - doubtful)

I feel like I'm missing someone but that's the candidates for a top six spot in GR. I think with his shot he'd be a lock to play alongside Janrkrok if he's there.

Besides his penalties - which he's cut down on recently - what are his biggest weaknesses? I've heard he's not the best skater but he looks very strong from all the highlights I've seen - upper and lower body.

That's good, looks like he can at least fight for a spot if there's 5 guys likely returning.

Weaknesses would be defensive play and skating ... His lower body is small-ish, or maybe looks like that because of his ridiculous arms lol. I think that factors into his skating, as it looked laboured and unnatural when he first got here ... It has for sure improved though.

There's not too many bad things going on with Halifax this year, so his defensive game hasn't really been an issue, but it's something he will need to work on, like most prospects.

Our coach Ducharme sat him down earlier on in the season after a couple pre-season episodes with his temper ... I think some good coaching will give Marty a level-headed approach, and curb the breakouts ... He's done a great job since October. If he doesn't score and a chippy defenseman gets in his face all night he may take a bad penalty, but the good far outweighs the bad this year, so most fans can get over it lol.

So more powerful skating and discipline basically ... Hard to teach discipline in an emotional game, but I hope he learns.

Don't follow the wings much, aren't Tatar and Nyq in the NHL? Sounds like Marty will have his work cut out for him to make the top 6, who knows.

Frk is a great prospect for you guys. I do watch and see live a whole lot of QMJHL action and Frk was always a favorite of mine and should have been a 1st rounder in his draft year. At the very worst, a really high 2nd rounder. A steal for you guys. Pissed off now to see you guys coming in our division...

Anybody else think the prospect pool lacks a left-handed guy with really high (#1 PP) offensive upside? I see Ouellet as a #2 PP guy.

It feels like we have Sproul for the #1 PP on the right and then likely Smith on the second unit. Really, I think the Wings have a lot of talent on the right side and not quite so much on the left side.

I suppose two of the wilder-cards would be Almquist and Backman. Almquist absolutely has the hockey sense, vision, and passing, but I'm not convinced of his ability to crack an NHL lineup, even as a PP specialist. I haven't watched Backman, but I know he plays PP and is certainly racking up the assists in the SEL. However, he has almost no goals and that's a little worrying. You need both guys on the PP to be a shooting threat, at least in theory.

Actually, kind of weird, really: across all competition for Backman since the 2007-2008 season, he only has 20 goals. in 284 games.

Jokerit lost game 3 3-4 after OT and now trail Lukko 1-2 in the series. Pulkkinen set up the second Jokerit goal. Fanned on several one timer chances, his markings were off today.
