Would be shocked, although not disappointed, if Halpern isn't claimed on waivers.
Vancouver, Phoenix, Chicago, or Detroit might pick him up, IMO.
I agree he is a useful player but the Rangers bottom 6 has been so bad they have to move bodies around.........I think Halpern was waived because they think he will get picked up and they want to clear a contract
hes a good 4th line faceoff guy and PKer, someone will take him
if they waived Gilroy or Bickel they would of just cleared and the contract would still be on the books, although both of them will be waived by the deadline too
Makes no sense. Just trade Asham for FC. Halpern's better than the fringe NHLers Slats is keeping with the big club.
they traded Rupp, Haley is in the minors so Asham is the only tough guy, he's also been hurt so your basing a decision to trade him on basically just not liking the player from the start. Asham is useful and signed next yr. Halpern is not a bad player at all and should get picked up on waiver but he was a goner as a UFA next yr anyway.
He was a healthy scratch how many times this season. Torts wouldn't play him at his natural position. He didn't trust him. Stu hasn't played in 2 weeks. 88 minutes of TOI.
And he was a career AHLer until Torts became the coach of the Rangers. The Ducks signed him to a pretty big deal ($1.375 million in the NHL AAV) then thought so little of him they dealt him to the Rangers for an already-clearly-busting Nigel Williams. He didn't play in the NHL until he was called up last season by the Rangers, under Torts, who liked him enough to play him in 51 NHL games and 18 playoff games. I'd say if it wasn't for Tortorella, he'd be playing on an AHL deal right now, or possibly over in Europe.
