If he's here to replace Ryan White, while putting Dumont back on the 3rd line - fantastic.

I'm guessing the White injury is more serious than previously thought?
Great on faceoffs and very responsible defensively. Good wheels and quite good with the puck. Really like this move. He'll be an asset come playoff time, and on the boxplay.

Thats what ill remember Halpern for lol, he tipped that puck on the way into the habs net.

Nevertheless not a bad move on the habs part, still hope we get a tough guy to play on the 4th line!

Tom Pyatt was fantastic for us. I still can't shake my head around why we let him go. 20-30 point 4th liner with great speed and fantastic on the PK.

In 30 games with the Rangers this season, he has ONE ASSIST and ZERO GOALS and is a -5.

If that does not scream out useless scrub, then I dont know what to tell you.

For comparison sakes, George Parros has 1 Goal and 1 Assist.

Halpern does not address a glaring need. Parros would

Sort of a Gainey move, which is a little odd from MB. Loving the people that 'do not want' Clowe, but love the picking up of Halpern lol

Look on the Panthers forum, or watch a few of their games. Parros is a total waste of time. Trading anything of value for him would be malpractice.

Halpern is playing with goons most nights and is shooting just below 2.5%. Meaning even though he's playing an extremely defensive role and wouldn't be putting up many points to begin with, he also is having ridiculously bad luck.

And you know as well as the rest of us do that 4th liners aren't there to score points. Stop being disingenuous.

Halpern - costs the Habs nothing.

Clowe - would not cost the Habs nothing.

I'd be impressed if even the biggest Clowe hater on the planet would be pissed at picking him up off the waiver wire.

This is a waiver pickup..essentially for free.

Clowe would cost us a hell of a lot more than "free."

Except he never had more than 7 points in a season for the Habs, and his chest snipes made Gionta look like Stamkos.

Our PK and faceoffs are not glaring needs? I guess Parros fighting will lead to us killing more penalties and winning more faceoffs.

Good defensively, yeah. The most points he had as a Hab was 7 in 61 games though. He has never hit 20 in the NHL.

A guy who can win faceoffs and kill penalties is more valuable than a guy who can sit in the press box and grow a sick moustache.

Let's see if he fits the Habs fans' three-fold requirements of a valuable player:

1. Does he have a small cap hit? Check.
2. Is he tall? Nay.
3. Does he fight? Nay.

Diagnosis: Bad pick up.

Gauthier

He helps our faceoffs and penalty kill, a need more glaring than punching someone else in the face a few times. Prust, White, a couple others can do that just fine. We also gave up nothing for him.

Both are vets that have had terrible seasons. My point stands. I don't mind the move, I'm just laughing at the double standards here.

I respect what you think is wrong with the Habs. I know you crave size and agressivness.

But you need to acknowledge that we are brutal in two pivotal areas of the game: Faceoffs and PK.

Halpern will help these 2 issues. Sure, he won't help with problem #1, but he will give us a solution for #2 and #3.

One step at a time.

What's so special about a RH shot? Isn't most of the population right-handed or is this just something the habs were missing with their current line-up?

Hard to complain about a move that didn't cost the team anything. Where is Dominic Moore anyways, How come he's not playing? Since we're going back down memory lane I miss Robert Lang. Didn't realize he's 43. Moore is exactly 10 years younger.

nothing but a depth move that costs you nothing.

Experienced face-off guy, knows Montreal & comes off the books next season.
I dont understand why ppl have to hate on purely depth moves?

If we need to upgrade next week, then we have the ability to move a Moen or White, or whoever.

And keep in mind, injuries. You want to go deep into the playoffs, guys like Halpern are key.
