I don't see Meszaros as having much value, especially for a 1st. Huge injury risk and not playing well after his return. Plus he is owed $4 mil next season. Even when Holmgren traded for Kubina, it wasn't in the context of a severe salary cap reduction.

Oh, definitely not a 1st. Maybe a 2nd or a D prospect (Goloubef?)

Sorry, didn't realize what I was quoting.

Maybe if howson was still gm we might squeeze a 1st for mez. Goloubef is a guy I'd like to take a chance on

I'd love to ship the hobbit out. It won't happen. I cannot see him saying yes

The first domino is likely Iginla. Once he is moved then the "losers" in the Iginla sweeps may call Holmgren about Briere. I just don't think you will get the type of return that some think. I will be stunned if someone offers a first round pick.
A 2nd round pick isn't too good to turn down. Draft picks aren't the holy grail that HF makes out. Talbot is one of the last players i'd trade. He does everything we need him to do, and that role is hard to fill reliably.

Agreed.

At this point, I'd be pretty disappointed if they moved him for anything less than a good defensive prospect + a 2nd, or a 1st.

I don't necessarily think that's his value, but I really see no reason to move him unless it is an obviously good deal.

Yeah a 2nd is probably equal to Talbot's value. To me I'm not moving Talbot unless a team offers more than that.

its not just HF that values draft picks. Most of the GMs in the league value draft picks. I do agree that if he is on this team on April 4th I will be happy. I like the guy and hes one of the few that has given the effort every night.
So you dont think that if the Flyers have a "firesale" that they shouldnt trade guys for picks? If any year is the year to do it its this year. The team isnt very good. The draft is loaded with defensive prospects. Something that they need.
hopefully if they do get a defenseman and he struggles out of the gates we wont have people saying hes the next Bruno Gervais after 40 games.

He's just one of those players where his value to the team is more than his actual value. Therefore, keep him.

It all depends on the return really. All depends what is offered. If it's a last 2nd...keep him. If it's a mid 2nd + well then I see what that plus is.

Columbus is absolutely loaded on D prospects that are showing themselves to be NHL ready, why would they trade for more D?

Flyers GM Paul Holmgren and Director of Player Personnel Chris Pryor here in Minny. Now that's a sign of something going on

Hmm. Wild?

They have some D prospects, but they wouldn't have the cap space going forward to take on Briere.

But couldn't it just be an NCAA scouting trip?

Yeah he tweeted a follow up tweet saying they could also be there because of the NCAA tourney.

Heatley. They want another winger who's over 30, has a big caphit, is past his best and is called Danny. Seriously though, I've just seen someone suggest it. Surely that wouldn't happen?

Spurgeon is getting phased out by Brodin. Maybe him?

They are playing the Sharks tonight. Could be either team.

Spurgeon should be a fun acquisition. He's small, but he can hit a bit and can move the puck well.

The Wild play San Jose at 2:00 pm followed by the WCHA Final Five, which has been going on since Thursday, championship game between Wisconsin and Colorado College.

Edit. Interesting player that the Flyers might be interested in : Mike Boivin, a senior right handed puck moving defenseman from Colorado College who led all division 1 defensemen in goals scored with 14. Undrafted free agent. If Colorado College loses tonight, their season is probably over.

Multiple sources are saying Holmgren and Pryor are scouting the Wild/Red Wings and WCHA Final 5 games. Im sure Holmgren will be going other places too. The deadline is still 10 days away.

Would be a very nice signing IMO, which means I have zero knowledge of the player. 88 pm's in 44 games, to go with 28 points. 6'1 190 lbs.

It surprises me that some people don't think we could get more than a first for Briere. Kris Versteeg got a first and a third. Kaberle got even more than that I believe. Briere's a proven playoff dynamo and if he waives his NMC the Flyers should get a pretty penny for him.
