Dang Murph was one of my favorites

mod

I only like Ken, Redmond and Murph. Sad day in Detroit today. I've lost respect for network.

I liked Murph...always made me laugh and I honestly thought he did a decent job. I could do without Thompson as he drives me insane, but like others have said there must be something else going on here.

Murphy and Keating are both very odd. Good luck to Larry, no idea what else he's qualified to do. Maybe replace the Menard's guy?

Liquor is the only plausible reason for this.

Well damn, i'm going to miss him. He was a bit odd but I always enjoyed it.

I'm sure he'll land on his feet somewhere.

Hallelujah. I couldn't stand Murph. I don't know if he couldn't handle being in front of the camera, was just stupid, or some combination of both. He won't be missed here.

Eh, they could've let him go out gracefully.

Maybe the Wings org can find something for him to do.

There's gotta be more to this. Nobody reasonably jumps to the conclusion that the 3rd commentator is the reason why ratings are bad.

Either:

1. Murph deserved it in some way (I have no desire to speculate how)

2. They have somebody better coming in

or

3. FSD management is completely irrational and fired someone who has relatively little effect on the product in order to somehow save it.

After thinking about it, I think #2 is the most reasonable response by FSD. They say: our ratings suck, so we need to make a splash! Let's get a commentator who will make people excited about games again. Maybe a former Wing of the notable variety.

Didn't he use to work for NHL Network? I could see him landing a job back with them. His personality fits right in with the rest of the NHL Tonight crew

I liked Murph - he gave some good analysis from a defensman's point of view and although he was awkward at times he was pretty funny.

Please don't make Darren Eliot the replacement... He doesn't have much credentials and he's very boring. Draper would be awesome and personally Ozzy would be the best. Could you imagine Ozzy and Mick?

There's more to this than we'll probably hear. Makes no sense to can a between the glass/back-up color guy based on ratings. Was Murph the greatest? No, but he was far from bad enough to be considered a rating-killer. Ken, Mick, and Murph made a good team. Again, something is fishy with the timing and excuse for termination. Murph was with FSD for something like 10 years. The ratings excuse seems too flimsy for someone with that kindof time on the job.

As said, what a low blow. I recently met Murph and have always enjoyed his quirkiness and positive energy. Very sorry he's gone and I hope he can find a place somewhere in the NHL. He has more than earned it.

Please respect FSD's decision to improve their broadcast. Enough with the petitions. I'm shocked so many fans like him at all. Red Wing games just got much more enjoyable.

Unfortunately, his credentials are being the old Thrashers guy and Fox already likes him. If Osgood and Draper are anything like commercials I seriously doubt it. Not sure Draper wants to be anything but front office or coach. The problem is the natural go get the grind guys, they all landed good positions with the organization and likely just saw Murphy get mysteriously dumped.

I really actually think Maltby might be great at this, see if maybe he wants to quit scouting. Another popular grinder type, can anyone not see Kocur doing this, he was always quite funny in interviews. You know Pang went from Phoenix to St. Louis, he seems to be available if we power up. We should have a better hockey market than St. Louis maybe the Wings kick a little money to Fox or request him. How he isn't back on National tv is beyond me.

Murph was probably sleeping with the producer's wife or something.

Panger is too small. We need somebody with a big body to create space between the benches.

For me, it's because Trevor is so clearly *not* ignorant. He clearly knows about the Wings and about hockey. He even skates pretty well. More than most people I know and I live in Michigan.

Didn't someone tell Murphy? You gotta be sleeping with Babcock to be untouchable.

They must have someone else in mind I would think before getting rid of a guy who 'actually knows the game' like Murphy

HAHAHA!

This is terrible news though. Maybe he wasn't the most exciting analyst but he was a good guy. He'll find something soon...

Didn't care for Murph in the studio but he was fine between the benches.

Money dispute?
