I like having Brassard on this team right now. He's creative with the puck and has been a good stabilizer on his line. He works hard, he keeps the puck in the offensive zone and he has been very aware and creative. I'm happy with keeping him unless it means using him for a clear upgrade. I think he the way he is playing, he can hit that 50-55 point next year as the teams second center. I still want to trade R.J. and I'm also good with trading Nikitin and Wisniewski. Sure our powerplay looks better with Wisniewski out there, but our coaches insist on playing him prime 5 on 5 and penalty kill time which hurts this team. Nikitin I'd look to trade only for a upgrade at forward but I wouldn't consider trading him for a pick unless it was a top 15 pick or part of a package to move into the top 5.

The way this team is playing, it's hard to want to trade anybody. Umberger was good last night.

I agree with what you say about Brassard. However, I don't want Wizniewski traded. I think his spirit is good for this team. I was worried he was going to crap it up after signing for all them dollars, but he hasn't done that. And he's so dangerous on the PP. Of course, the defense looks like it can handle things on the ice without him, but he seems like he's a guy who is good in the room.

He's far and away our best PP point weapon. With him we've been something almost resembling respectable on the PP. Without him... well, we can gain the zone with some frequency and sometimes even get shots on net if we're lucky.

And you can't break up the JMFJ-Wiz bromance. It just wouldn't be right.

What do we know about Yale forward Antoine Laganiere? Any interest from us at all?

33 points in 35 games his senior year. Good size at 6'4".

There is some interest from NHL teams, but I don't think we'd be on his list of preferred destinations. He projects as a good third liner, two way play and physicality being key. Think Dustin Penner.

Cam Atkinson

Been an Atkinson fan for a while now, and wondering what his value is to the Blue Jackets. What do you see his potential as? What would you be looking for in a trade involving him?

Atkinson still has first line upside. We're not worried much about his production this year because he's battling through a high ankle sprain. Players/prospects with first line upside is the biggest hole in our organization so it doesn't make any sense to trade Atkinson.

No no ... not so fast ... he's a Leafs fan, let's give him a Leafs type proposal

Uhm, uh ... Atkinson for Rielly, Kadri, and a first round pick!

In all seriousness, there is no reason for the Jackets to trade Atkinson. As was mentioned, they need forward prospects big time, and with his production not being great right now, the value would be nowhere near fair.

Atkinson is about as untouchable as we've got on this team right now in my opinion. A trade involving him would not make sense unless the return is extremely attractive. If anything, the Jackets should be looking to acquire more offensive prospects, not trade away the ones they have.

He's a hard worker, has a high +/- because of it, fearless in his compete level AKA exactly the kind of guy we need on this team. The scoring will come eventually, the last couple games he has shown true promise now that his ankle appears to have improved by leaps and bounds. Plus he's my favorite player, so even more reason to hang onto him

It takes a special kind of courage to come here and ask about a trade for Cam Atkinson...

(Especially after we were mocking the possibility in the "Johansen to Toronto" thread on T&R earlier. )

No. In fact I'd love to see Joey centering with Matt on one wing and Cam on the other.

We need to keep him to validate XGMSH's drafting prowess beyond the 1st round

I'm starting to think he may be a tad over rated. You can blame the ankle all you want, but potential first liners need to score a little more than Cam does. Even if you go back to last year, 6 of his 7 goals came in the last two games, he only had one goal in his first 20 games.

I agree.

He's a great find late in the draft, I'm just not sure he's got enough to be a top six forward, counted on to score consistently. Sort of the same way I feel about Matt Calvert.

We can do that just fine with Goloubef, Calvert, Collins, Prout, Reilly, and whatever we get for Savard when we trade him.

The Dallas-Pittsburgh tradeis why I have been saying we need to trade players who aren't part of our future. Some people have gotten on me for it, but it just makes the most sense. Dallas realizes it even though they have a chance to make the playoffs. Great trade by their GM if it is true.

It would be a stab in the back to our dressing room. If we lose a few more before the deadline, though, I'm right with you, and I think they'd understand.

Dallas is ahead of us. What do you think they are thinking? Players need to play and let the GM do his job. If they can't handle a player being traded then we have some problems.

This. I know that I view players as commodities (admittedly too much) but it is the players job to play as hard as they can on the ice. In contrast it is management's job to assess the team's chances of winning the Stanley cup, if you believe you don't have a shot then you sell at the deadline so that you can get the assets to win the cup in the future. There is no way we are winning the cup this year, so management should sell high in a seller's market and get assets more assets in one of the deepest drafts in recent history or in the near future.

Players play to win the game, management plans to win the cup.

Also with their road record and with so many road games that they have to finish off the season, Jarmo needs think realistic about their chances at making the playoffs. Then you have to factor in that a lot of teams are in the hunt, games remainings for Columbus and the other teams etc.

I remember a couple of years ago when Florida was in a playoff hunt. They had Bouwmeester who was a big part of their team who was also a pending UFA after the season. I think they tried to get a contract hammered out but couldn't. They ended up keeping him to help them get into the playoffs, rather then trade him to another team. Had they traded him, they could have gotten a lot of assets for him as he was one of the bigger name pieces at the trade deadline. Then Florida went down hill and missed the playoffs. I think they ended up trading Bouwmeester to Calgary for a meaniningless late round draft pick for his rights.

Well said. I too think that way too much probably, but the GM needs to do what he thinks is best for the long term future of the team.
