Yeah, this is bull crap. I liked Murph and though his color commentary was a little slow at times, he was likable enough that "ratings were bad" is a completely stupid reason, and likely NOT the reason.
I just read the article and was shocked. That's very strange to just randomly fire someone like that in the middle of the season.
All the best Murph. He was a bit quirky, but I still enjoyed his work.
Yeah, he was a little awkward and seemed nervous when speaking, but I have a soft spot for Murph. I always thought his chemistry with Ken and Mick was pretty funny with their teasing back and forth. I feel bad for him to be let go like this.
I thought he was awkward at times, and the glasses were too much, but I thought he brought a lighthearted presence to the broadcasts. I'm not going to lose any sleep over this, but I hope his replacement is decent.
I hope we get someone like Draper, Osgood, Malby, or McCarty. I'd be happy with any of those.
Too bad. I liked Murph. I understand the gripes about his delivery, but, though it was awkward, it didn't really bother me, because the guy provided decent insight. FSD's official reasoning sounds suspect, but I'm not going to speculate.
Not sure if Eliot will be the replacement, but if he is, I wouldn't mind at all. He is also insightful, and he's done a real good job doing color for college hockey games. Maybe he'll grow into Mickey's spot some day when Mick calls it quits.
Though Murph wasn't a great broadcaster, he brought very good insight into things. Plus he seemed to genuinely enjoy being employed by the Wings. Not sure if he has any effect on the ratings though. Jon Keating and Mickey York are more useless than Larry Murphy. They are the reason I don't watch the Pre and post game shows. Not Larry Murphy.
